"Great unknown Game, Highly addictive lil bugger"
Well, to give a little bit of background of how I came across the game. I was in Algebra II, and someone said they had a gameboy and game for sale, So, being the game addict I am, Went to his locker and took a look at it, It was an old gray bulky gameboy, and a game, which was Rampart, So, Since I had my GBA with me, I asked to play it during lunch to see if I was interested in buying the game from him. Well, after playing to for 10 or so minutes, I bought it, heh. And Its quite addictive, now, onto the review.
Rampart, starts out with choosing 3 Knights. One with high defense, low attack, one with even attack and defense, and one with high attack and low defense. And then it goes to a map with two areas you can pick to put your castle on. After you pick the map, it will give you 2-3 spots to put your base on. When you pick on, a square wall for your fortress will appear. Then, depending on the character you picked, you can put down some cannons, from 2-4 of them, in the are shaded that is contained in the wall. Then you will go into a battle scene, where you shoot your cannons at enemies on the other side of the river, from knights, to big battle tank type things. Also, if you have some free time, you can hit the small squares on the map with some cannon shots, and get some treasure for more points.
After the time runs out on the battle, it will ask you to rebuild your fortifications. Then, in a given time limit, it will give you Tetris type pieces to put in the open spots in the wall the enemy destroyed. You have to close the wall back up in order not to get defeated and lose a life. Also, If you have cannons in a seperate square you built, and you built you wall around you castle, and not that extra fortification, you will not be able to use those cannons in the next round of fighting.
After 3 or so rounds of fighting, you clear that area of the map from all enemies, and you win. Then it will take you to the main map again, and the place you defeated has a flag, and you can pick from the remaining spots on the map to also defeat. Even though you only get three lives, its still a great, fun and addictive game.
Gameplay (9/10)- Fun gameplay, the different Tetris like pieces every round make it challenging to make a new wall.
Story-(7/10)- since I bought it with out the box and instructions, I don't know much about the story, other than you have to defeat everyone else on the main map.
Audio/Sound-(/10) this game is not much for sound. Its pretty much silent other than the cannon shots, But the music it fun to listen to, if you have ever played risk on Sega, its about like that. Military/tactic type music.
Replay Value-(10/10) This game has alot of replay value in my opinion. But you have to like tactic/risk type games, Very addictive.
Is it worth the cash?
I Think it is, if you cant find it on the old gameboy, I know they rehashed it on GBC, and I'm sure its on the nes also, about 60% of the games for gameboy were more than likely on nintendo too.
overall (9/10) But I'm sure you knew that before you looked at this review.
