Tiny Toon Adventures: Babs' Big Break
Review by Golden Road
"Imagine Fowlmouth's Language for Being Left Out of This Game!"
Tiny Toon Adventures: Babs' Big Break, is, to put it simply, a simple, but well-done platformer. Babs Bunny wants to make it big, as a theatre star, but Montana Max wants to buy the theatre to shut it down and build his own factory. Buster Bunny, Plucky Duck, and Hamton J. Pig go out to stop Monty from buying the theatre.
You will travel through 4 worlds as Buster Bunny, Plucky Duck, and Hamton: Acme Acres, the City, the Haunted Castle, and Montana Max's Mansion. Each world is divided into 4 parts, the last part being the boss of the world. You start the game with a stingy two hearts on your life meter. Lose all your hearts, you lose a life, and are sent back to the beginning of the part of the level you died on. Lose all your lives, you get sent back to the beginning of the world. Lose all your continues, you get sent back to the beginning of the game. All very simple, really.
Essentially, there is no difference in abilities for the three characters you can choose from, aside from their weapon. Buster hurls carrots in an arc, Plucky plucks pineapples at the ground, bouncing off solid objects at a 90 degree angle, and Hamton rolls watermelons along the ground. But you have limited ammo, so conserve! You can jump on almost any enemy to defeat it, as well.
Also, along the way, you can collect hundreds of diamonds. You use them to play the bonus games, Montana Mash, and the Race Game. Montana Mash is played like the Whack-a-Mole game... position your character to one of the openings, and whack the mice for 10 points each, and the rare Montana Max for 50 points each. 150 points gets you a prize, but the prizes get better the more points you get. The Race Game has your character race against Bookworm, Sweetie, or Little Beeper, each respective opponent offering a better prize for winning. Tapping A and B as quickly as possible is what makes you run. It is worth noting, for this game only, that Buster runs the fastest, and Hamton the slowest, so be aware of what character you are using before you play.
Graphics: (10/10)--Beautiful for an old Game Boy game! All of the characters used are very recognizable, and most of the characters from the TV show make an appearance in the game. Some of the enemies, like the prep-boy mouse and Hamton's nightmare cake, even come right from the show! Also worth noting how cute is is when you get smashed by an object! Also, there are some hidden goodies in the background for the Haunted Castle level....
Sound: (9/10)--Pretty good sound for the old Game Boy as well! The Tiny Toons theme is here, as well as music for bonus areas, and a special theme for the City, the Haunted Castle, and Montana's Mansion. The sound effects aren't bad, but nothing overly great about them.
Overall: (8/10)--If I had to complain about something, it's too short. Only 4 worlds... it does not take long at all to beat. It's not something that's likely to challenge you. Fun, yes, but it should've been a little longer. However, if you are, or were, a Tiny Toons fan, you'll enjoy the game, or a young kid would have fun with it.
