Metroid II: Return of Samus

Review by Mister_T

"Good for a GB game....addicting"

Intro:

My brother first got this game numerous years ago, and I got addicted. We still haven't beaten it though, so if you don't like games that are hard, this game isn't for you. Go play Super Mario Land or something. But for those of you who are up to the challenge, read on. Or go and read someone else's review. This game rocks, that's all you need to know, but keep reading if you want.

Story 10/10

You are a girl named Samus. She doesn't look like a girl, but, surprise, surprise, she is. You have been sent to a planet that you cleared out of metroids before, but people sent troops to see if it was all clear. After a long time, and the troops don't come back, the people decide to send you back to the planet. And since you have experience with the metriods and the planet, they send you alone. Great story, and I don't think they could've come up with a better one.

Controls 10/10

If these controls were the same for a more recent console, they would suck. But since they're for Game Boy, the rule. B is jump, A is shoot, Select changes from your blaster to your missile shooter, and Start is, guess what? Pause, wow. If you press down twice on the D-pad you turn into a ball, once you duck. Basic controls, but they're all you need.

Music 10/10

What little there is, rocks. It basically makes music only when you start up the game, get a power up or a new weapon, or when you defeat a boss. There is music in other sections, too but the songs aren't catchy. Who cares though, it's a Game Boy game for crying out loud. In some sections there isn't music at all, so....

Sounds 7/10

There aren't too many sounds in this game, but what sounds there are, are pretty good. Guns shooting, missiles firing, things blowing up, et cetera. Just the basics really. This is what brings the game down, nothing else. It's good.

Difficulty 10/10

This game is tough. Like I said in my intro, I still have not beaten it. Hint: Hard. Very hard. Extremely hard. HARD!

Replay Value 10/10

It's fun to start new games on empty files and such. Just don't play it for awhile. Then it gets fun again.

Rent or Buy?
I'm not sure if you can do either any more, but buy it if you can. And buy it fast.
