Sword of Hope
Review by Paulos
"A very difficult, yet very fun Gameboy game."
Sword of Hope is one of the rarest games on the original Gameboy handheld system. It was originally released in the early early 90s, just about near 1989. The game, hands down was a perhaps, you could fall, a bomb. No one wanted it, no one cared, and not many of these games were made. You will be lucky to even FIND one of these cartridges anywhere... but I am one of those lucky people.
Hands down, if you can learn how to use the controls of this action-rpg type of game, you will have a GREAT gaming experience... you start as Theo, who must travel through dungeons that are filled with evil minions of a devilish dragon who is planning to destroy the world with his incredible physical and magical fire powers... The king of the world is incredible worried, for his powers and his warriors are nothing to the dragon's incredible power... but can Theo... who has really never had any true battle experience, but honestly a great warrior, defeat the dragon and his minions? Can he have the courage to face the great dragon? Can this one man... can this one man do... what an enormus army of 50,000 grand warriors cannot do to a single great dragon? This is how your story starts... and this is how you must start it, you must make yourself prepared and equipped well for the several battles, mazes, puzzles, treasure and many things you are about to gain, earn and experience.
Well like I said before, this is the most rare game you can find that is available on the Gameboy system. No one really even liked this game, so technically it barely sold, and like I said at that time of the early 90s people only wanted mainly Mario games and such... so really this game perhaps, never got a truly and or a true fair chance, I will admit that... sadly.
But still, this is one of the most difficult games I have ever played in my gaming career, but it is also a very fun Gameboy game... VERY fun if you can just LEARN how to do the certain things to make the controls work right, how to move Theo, how to even battle, how to move, how to do ANYTHING... will help you! If you ever play this game, it is worth keeping... so do not sell it just because it is difficult to play, try harder and play more of it... for it is still by far a great, and very fun RPG game!
Graphics: 70%
Words: Truthfully, the graphics were very good. The drawings of the people and the monsters, Theo, the map, the movements and animation and also the pictures of the people were done incredibly well. The people who sent many hard hours at night making this game should have received more credit for their accomplishment.
Sound: 35%
Words: This is where the game is dry. Repetitive, sometimes the music will make you have a headache, and the sound effects are quite bad.
Replay: 50%
Words: Seriously, most people do not even want to play this game... even though not many people have even played this game mind you... but still, there is replay value... considering the hard controls and long hours of training you put into this game!
Gameplay: 73%
Words: If you learn it, it is great. REALLY, it IS.
Story: 65%
Words: Now, the story was quite interesting... it was also nice how you could talk to the people and monsters you would see and then battle them if you would want, nice dialogue screens as well! Good story I must say!
Characters: 70%
Words: Theo is a great warrior who deserves all respect as a very good RPG hero.
Final Words: Hard to find this game in the WHOLE entire world... if you can find it, buy it... it is worth it.
