Wario Land II

"Forget Mario: Wario rolls and r00ls !!!"
First of all I have to say this game is quite controversial. Some people say it sucks, but I agree with the people who say this lil' game is awesome! You'll soon see why...
HGC reads the story with excitement... 8/10
The game starts in Wario's castle. Three evil aids of Syrup, the female captain who is even more demonic than Wario, invade the castle and steal Wario's precious treasure. They keep Wario from following using a huge alarm clock, a giant faucet (weird) and a snake in the cellar.
Further in the game, you have to return a hen to her nest (were the Nintendo guys high?), and follow the evil gang of syrup all over Wario's island
HGC enjoys the smooth gameplay... 9/10
Playing this game is really fun. Even more, it's addicting. Kicking, stomping and rolling enemies off the platform is nice. And the greatest thing of all, you're invincible! Wario's Spike And Other Stuff Protecting Fat rolls do the job. The only thing you can lose is coins. Coins don't play an important role in this game, they are only worthful in the minigames. Another innovative and funny thing, where Wario 3 and 4 are also based on, are the dozens of transformations, like flat Wario, fiery Wario, icy Wario, drunk Wario... most of them are important in the game, some are there to find secrets, others just annoy you.
HGC's eyes pop out seeing these beautiful graphics... 8/10
Ok, the graphics are average for a regular GameBoy game, but the animations of the enemies are great!! There is many variation, too. The levels and bosses are well-designed and sometimes a little bit 'cartoonish'.
HGC's ears are happy hearing these wonderful tunes... 7/10
This is the game's weak point. The songs are addicting, but mainly, most songs and sound effects are a bunch of bleeps. When you pause the game, it's even worse (but maybe this is for saving the battery oh well...); and in may levels the same tune comes back, with a lower or higher pitch.
HGC can even handle these easy controls... 9/10
The controls are good. Just like you want them. Anything more to say? Oh yeah, sometimes the 'enemy throwing combination' is hard to pull off...
HGC 'charges' through the levels... 7/10
There is no real challenge, finding the secrets and games is quite easy, all of the levels are quite short and the enemies are easy to kill (except for the penguins and freeze birds... ARGH!). The bosses give you a real challenge and are all made very creatively (let's say weird). It's a long game, but not a hard one.
HGC replays the game for the 217th time... 8/10
This game is HUGE. There is many to do. There is many to find. There are many minigames to play. There are some challenges at the very end. So I would say the replayability is quite high for a platformer.
HGC decides not to rent, not to buy, but to steal this game. Buy
Stealing is a good option, but this game is good enough to give money for it. So buy it. There are people who might dislike this (master?)piece, but the won't even rent it, so go get it at the stores.
HGC asks for drum rolls... the score!
This is definitely the best platformer on the regular gameboy. Creativity, fun and length are the ingredients of this entertaining game. Remark the high reviewer's tilt.I gave it an extra point for the creativity, extra's and fun. It's worth it.
