"A good introduction to the small screen"

The blue bomber is brought to his first Game Boy game. Definitely a good game overall, but somehow, it kinda missed something from the NES versions.

Story:
Not much of a story, per say. Dr. Wily has rebuilt some of his Robot Masters from Megaman and Megaman 2 for another shot at taking over the world: Cutman, Iceman, Elecman, Fireman, Quickman, Bubbleman, Flashman, and Heatman. He's also introduced a new Robot Master, Enker. There are only six stages in all: The first four Masters from MM1, then Wily's Lab, where you fight the Masters from MM2, as well as Enker. Finally, Wily's Space Station, where the big clash with Wily himself takes place.

Graphics:
Not bad for Game Boy. Certainly worthy of a Game Boy port of the original series. Although the sprites are somewhat larger than on their NES counterpart, making for a little less manuverability. Nevertheless, good detailing for a fairly early game.

Sound:
The music for the first four stages are remixes of their original stage tunes in the NES version, which is a nice touch, although I think I like the original ones better. The sound is still decent. For some reason, I like the sound effect Elecman's Thunder Beam makes here better than the NES. Although I'm not sure about Megaman's regular plasma shots, it sounds more like a pea shooter than a gun.

Play Control:
Not much different than on the NES. Only real differance is that Megaman's plasma shots travel a bit slower. This is the first Game Boy game, so he doesn't have Rush, or the sliding ability yet, just a floating platform called Carry that he gets after beating the first four Robot Masters.

Challenge:
The challenge is well rounded here. Challanging, but not so hard, you feel like you can't get anywhere. They did tinker with the stages a bit, so they are differant than what you may remember from the NES. The Robot Masters themselves are different too. Elecman has been toned down considerably; he's much easier than before. On the other hand, Cutman is much harder to beat than before. Probably because there's no Super Arm... All in all, though, the challenge is pretty moderate.

In Conclusion:
I'd definatly recommend this title. Despite there only being six stages, they'll still keep you on your toes, especially that final area. Megaman veterans shouldn't have too much trouble, but they'd probably appreciate the mix of robots from two seperate games. You should be able to find it for a reasonable price at most online stores, or a used game store.
