The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
Review by The President
"It could of been better."
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle is the first in the line of the Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle series, each of them growing more and more complex when the people who made this were able to maximize the Game Boy's Hardware. However, since I have not played any other installment in this series, I could write an unbiased review. I do find some pros and cons in this game, but most or less, the cons outnumber the pros. This game was great when it came out, be that was a long time ago. However, my copy says it was a million seller, saying that it had lasting appeal to the young ones. I just have to say that this game could of been better. On to the story!
You are Bugs Bunny, and you are trying to get your girl-bunny from the clutches of your enemies, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Wile K. Oytie, and Sylvester the Cat. You must navigate threw over 70 levels to get to the top of the castle to save your girl-bunny! To get to the next level, you must find all the carrots inside that level and guide your way threw stairways and pipes to find them all, while outsmarting your enemies. You could easily outsmart them with a assault of boxes, weights, and the infamous boxing glove to kill them and rid them of the level forever. There is no save feature in this game, making you use 4 letter and number passwords. Simple enough for a young child to remember and write down. On the the numbered review!
Graphics: 7
These certainly aren't the best graphics I have seen on Gameboy, but the do not even come close to the worst. This game was one of the Gameboy's first games, so that is saying a good amount. You can tell which character is which by a glance, and when they or you die, there is little animations. However, when you the enemies go threw a box or any of your weapons, you can see the game slow down to a scuffling of baby feet until they get threw. That's about it. Not to shabby, but again, could be better.
Gameplay: 7
This could be called part puzzle, part action. You are walking around trying to collect carrots, which is action, while trying to get around some bad guy or wall or get one, which is part puzzle. However, this game could of been better in getting more challenging levels, because with a quick look at the level layout, you could find any way to get all the carrot within 2 minutes. Though I would usually not put this in for a Gameboy game, the AI is atrocious. Sam and Wily do not have the ability to go up pipes or up and down stairways, and when you get to the higher levels, you see a large quantity of the character are Sylvester, because he seems to be the smarter one of them all. But wouldn't you think Daffy would be, Sylvester isn't the sharpest one in the cartoons. Hey, it was the developers choice, not mine.
Sound: 5
As with most Gameboy game, and very few being an exception, their sound is the pits. A jarble of beeps and boops that brings a loud ringing to the ears if not played sparseingly. Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle is no exception. That's why I like playing with the sound off, thank you very much. However how bad the sound is, you can get over it by turning the sound off.
Fun Factor: 8
Though the sound is sub-par, you can not get over how much fun you will have playing this game or any of it's sequels. Though this game was suited for children who really just sit at home and watch old re-runs of Looney Tunes, any person could see it's addictive gameplay. However, no matter how fun this game is, you have to look at the graphics and the sound and not say that the could of been better in everything, including the gameplay.
Buy or Rent?
If you could, you should buy a different one of the series. Don't bother if you have a GBA though. You could be getting a much better gaming experience with someone of the sort on it.
