Best of the Best: Championship Karate
Review by Desert eagle
"Fight!!Fight!!Fight till the end!!"
Introduction:
This is one of the few gameboy games I have.In fact,my gameboy games are few and far between but most of the are 34 in ones. When i first bought the game,i feel a bit bored at the fighting and the game look dead to me.Yes,dead and boring to me because i didn't know the game very well back then and it look crappy. But after a while, my thinking change as i began to be better and better, seeing many fighting techniques impress me as well as the desire to complete the game made me stick to the game for a while before i stop. Then my friends borrowed it,said that it's quite okay and they have completed made me go back to the game again, this time,i replayed the game and enjoyed. That's why i wrote a FAQ over at the gamefaqs.L:)
Story plot:
The story is like this. You are invited to the Kumate world championship where you face the world’s best exponents with skill, speed and intelligence. From a rookie status, you are going to make a name for yourself in the ultimate world
championship by competing against the best. From here you make a reputation of yourself and earn the money where famous fighters earned. And the main priority
is to beat the best to win the titles and become a recognized champion as “The Best of the Best”.
Game play:
Gameplay is good, if you are a fighting fan or martial arts fan. This game provide a wide range of attacks which have excellent number of fighting styles. This game is not hard provided you got the fundamentals right as well as
some of the basic fighting techniques. There is a wide variety of options here. The options are quite cool, they have a preview option to see the fight and prepare with strategies for the perfect solutions for your fight to win and the these variety of options that are
unique like changing of names and some of the options provide good information you want to know(eg: Physical abilities and Grading system you might want to
know.) The best thing is: You can save at anytime of the game with a provided password for you to load anytime you feel you want to have a break off this game.It also have a training ground your you to built up your character attributes and excell better in the game. You can also dodge from fights which is quite cool to add to a fighting game but i prefer counter moves added,it will make the game more interesting.
The Invitational fighters are quite cool, because it's a street fight.Yes,no holds barred, everything goes,no time limit so that it rather fast pace and there can only be one winner that is left standing after the fight!!!The only thing I don't like about the fighting styles are they are about the same, only more aggressive attacks are added and aggressive attacks doesn't mean that the attack power damage is good, instead, the jabs are stronger and damage a character which doesn't make sense!!
Controls:
Controls are easy to navigate as gameboy have two buttons and a Dpad with some experiment in the Select Hits option and you will get adapt to the game fast. The only trouble you have in the controls are remembering the moves that you want, but after a while,it's no kick to you.But you want to perfect all fighting styles, well, it takes a while to understand and utilise all the fighting moves in the fighting style you select.
Difficulty:
Let me see,it's really not hard to do well in the game,as long as you keep training and keep your stats up.But the more you play the better you are.So for experts, completing the game is not a kick but beating the Invitational fighters can be really tough as all of them are good, and the longer you play, the harder the fighers going to be. Bottom line is to keep training and gets used to the selection style of fight you like and you will be a good fighter in no time.
Video and audio:
Videos and audio are quite standard because of limitations the game boy capability. It's not that great in terms of audio. It's rather crappy because all the moves seem to have the same sound effects. Here come a question for you
to ponder: Where's the background noise from the crowd that you can view from the screen? As for video, it's rather okay for anyone due to the black and white graphics of the game boy. The fighting effects are quite cool because of
some styles of fight, which might impress you.
Replay Value:
Once you beaten this game, it's rather boring because you will go around fighting your opponents to defend your title. However, the invitational fighters in this game can bring some challenge to your replay value because
they are tough and hard to beat provided you have not completed fighting all of them earlier in the whole Kumate championship.
Overall, this game is quite recommendable if you have the money and money to waste whether on renting or buying this game. For fighting fans, don't really go and get this unless you are bored and want to find new challenge.
