I have had Kirby's Dream Land for like 3 years now. The game had potential,but it could have been longer. Time for me to chew the fat once again. Lets start with the...
Gameplay 7/10: In this game,you basically explore 5 levels and fight a boss at the end of the level. Your main offense is sucking in enemies and then spitting them out to hurt nearby enemies or by just swallowing them whole. You will also find warp stars that basically bring you to the other half of the level. You have your invincibility items,your fast speed items and your health items. There is one level where you fly to kill a boss,but thats about it.
Sound 2/10: Sound is never good on GameBoy. The sounds sound like the Mario game sounds,but you won't be paying attention to them on your 20 minute quest.
Music 4/10: I would have given it the 2 it deserves,but each level has its own level theme. There is a code to get a sound test,but the only reason you should listen to the music,is if you are punishing yourself for any sins you have committed. There are only like 10 music tracks anyway. Okay enough of the music,lets move on to the....
Story 3/10: A penguin by the name of...I forgot,kidnapped four of Kirbys friends. Kirby goes on a quest to defeat this evil penguin and save his friends who are kidnapped. What an epic,unexpected story! It sounds so new and fresh! [ends sarcasm]. This is your typical Mario story.
Graphics 8/10: Kirbys sprite is good,the levels look good,the backgrounds look good. The graphics are the best part of this game,but it is too damn short!
Challenge 8/10: There are two modes in this game. Easy mode has a challenge of two,while hard mode has a challenge of six. 2+6=8.
Buy/Rent: If you can somehow find this game,you might as well just buy it. You will probably be charged like 5 bucks since the game has been out since 1992. You would probably buy it from your local unfriendly pawn shop owner.
Overall: This game is just too short. The graphics were kind of mind blowing for a GameBoy game,but it is way too short. I can't stress this enough. This game could have been remembered as the first game with great graphics,but instead it is your typical GameBoy game.
There it is,my review. Read it and weep as I did when I had to write how disappointingly short it was.
