Kirby's Dream Land 2
Review by The President
"Kirby, Kirby, your the greatest!"
The Pink Puffy ball named Kirby gives us some of the most fun adventures on the GameBoy! He is one of the most known videogame characters, and has his own cartoon show (out in Japan.) Though he started on the SNES, it was on the GameBoy with Kirby’s Dreamland 2 and the SNES with Kirby SuperStar that really brough him into the loveable ball of goo that we know and love. This game is greatly improved over the first Dreamland, and I could say that this is one of the greatest games for the little GB. It has the fell of a polished Platformer, and with the large amount of abilities that Kirby can acquire, it provides a fun experience for all. With trying to find all of the rainbow pieces, it would give you a very long and rewarding experience. Being one of the best titles for GameBoy, and now being dirt cheap, who wouldn’t like to have a little fun with Kirby? Really? Would you like to have no fun? Party-pooper.
You are Kirby, the cutest Pink Puffy ball since strawberry snowballs, and you have just given a whoopin’ to King DeeDee, and evil duck. However, sooner then Kirby expects it, King DeeDee rises up again, and the people of Kirby’s world call on him again to save the day. He is not alone, as he has 3 animal friends to help him: a Hamster, a Fish, and an Owl. Each of these animals gives Kirby different powers when he has inhaled types of enemies. That right, Kirby has the unique ability to transform into anything that he swallows, and doesn’t spit out. However, if you know better, there is greater evil, and you must figure it out yourselves.

These look much better then most things on the GameBoy, except perhaps Link’s Awakening. Only Nintendo could really get the full power out of the GB, and it shows with games like this. All the enemies are completely different from all the others enemies, and you can tell easily tell which power you are because of the small changes in your appearance. The Bosses are all original (except for a few, which were used in the first Kirby’s Dreamland) And instead of just having white space in the backgrounds, like some games (wink winky winkster!) but these have things like ice, trees, castles, etc. All and all, these graphics are pretty good for a game that came out in the early 1990s.
Gameplay: 10
The gameplay is why people keep coming back to play Kirby. It has it’s own style of gaming, which has still never even been tried to be duped. If you haven’t been paying attention to what I said in the paragraphs below, then listen us, young bucky, I’m not saying it again. Kirby has the ability to swallow enemies, and gain their powers. They range from sparks, to cutting boomerang, rocks, and a parasol. Each animal that Kirby rides also can use these abilities, and some of them can alter them greatly, giving you help, or they could hinder you. Also, unlike many platformers, Kirby can make his own projectiles just by swallowing air, and spitting it out at high speeds. No little forest creature is safe from hot puffball air. Kirby can also fly. Just by pressing up, he can fly. Want to be a pacifist? Then you can just fly threw the level. Giving these choices, and such a varied way of playing this game, how could you not give it a 10? Those evil Kirby haters (who voted him out in the popularity contest) would. NOT ME. I love his games. They provide you with a very fun time that everyone loves (except the people who say that he is “kiddy.”) Picture this:
Kirby, standing on a street corner, out in the snow, with no food for him to eat. A young man, about in his late teens, come walking by.
Kirby: Help me! Play my games again! You once loved my games! Love me again! Help me find the rainbow shells again!
Man: No, you are too “kiddy” for me. The young then pushes him aside, and Kirby slowly disappears.
Me: NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
See? You must treat your old games kindly. If you get rid of their memories, how will you ever be able to play Kirby’s game for what they are worth; great gameplay, and lot’s of fun.
Sound: 8
Most of the sound is really good on the GB’s mono speaker, but some stages get warbled and distorted, because of having too hard a sound, like loud crashes. Each transformation when eating an animal has it’s own sound, and every attacks has one. You have puffs when you throw air, etc. If Kirby could somehow talk...... but enough about that. Great sound for the GB, and you gotta love how the Hamster sounds. All nice and Hamstery and cuddly. I love him so much, “squeezes plush Hamster dog toy.” Uh, you didn’t see anything.
Fun Factor: 9
I loved playing this game. In fact, I still play this game. Once in a while, I get the urge to hit things with a fish. Yes, fish. You heard me right; it is fun to thawck things with fish, when there is no suing involved. Just finding one part of the game (you will know which things you must find if you look closely to what Kirby was saying) could be a game on it’s own. Getting 100% is a chore, but 3 new modes to play with at the end do reward you. Kirby, on behalf of giving everyone a family friendly game, I will award you will The President’s medal of video gaming greats. Why would I not give this game a 10 once I said so many good things about it?
Kirby: Yay! “Swallows medal.”
