The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Review by RyuGB
"Honey I shrunk the T-Rex!"
The Lost World starts off on the right foot by pumping you up with a great cinematic intro. It includes full screen animation's of the Site B island, and not to mention captured dinosaurs and a roaring T-Rex. Wow! However, once all that razzle and dazzle blows over the actual game sets in...
Gameplay: You are placed in the role of a unnamed hunter, with the simple goal of collecting various samples of Isla Sorna also known as Site B. Unlike most games of this ilk the LW lacks any determined end point to a stage, rather you are required to collect all the items in a area to move on. These ''samples'' include Dinosaur eggs, and dna vials. The problem in this concept endlessly repeats itself each and every stage. Thankfully, many enemies both dinosaur and human are is place to hinder your quest, and ultimately break up the monotony of the item collecting. You can deal out some extinction via you're weaponry if you so desire. Just don't tell your mom I said that. Sure, this may sound like a decent game thus far, but the difficulty may surprise you. The game is far too easy since each enemy you kill drops a medical-kit. It is literally impossible to die, and my friend that renders the game pointless.
Graphics:Pretty nice as far as the background is concerned, but all human sprites (including you) leave something to desired. However, what really burns my cookies is the
T-Rex's are freaking midgets. For some strange reason THQ made all the T-Rex's about the same size as your character, and since I'm a huge T-Rex fan I was sorely disappointed.
The rest of the dinosaurs actually seem to scale, but sadly lacks detail. The actual level design's have a bit of variety to them with such areas as: Jungles, Caves, and complexes, that actually resemble real life. However, what I really loved was all the death videos. It seems THQ went the extra mile, and did specific video sequences according by which dinosaur/way you die. Very cool if you ask me.
Sound:The sound effects are as basic as they come, and the music simply drones on. Honestly, I never felt bad turning this one down.
Control:Responsive for the most part, although from time to time control can get a bit sticky.
If this game wasn't so easy, I would have given it a seven. However, as it stands it's barely average. As a Jurassic Park fan I'm sorely disappointed.
