Oddworld Adventures
Review by ASX
"Probably a disappointment to Oddworld fans..."
I recently found this game collecting dust with my old Game Boy games... I couldn't really remember what it was like, so I started playing it and realized what my thoughts were on it before... this game is a bore. I've played other Oddworld games before, but this one was a disappointment, leaving me wanting more.
Oddworld Adventures has you in the place of Abe, a Mudokon that must rescue a temple from the Glukkons. You must fight several different types of monsters along the way and get past traps that have been set for you. You can also speak to fellow Mudokons using a strange communication method called Gamespeak, in which you press directional buttons to make a noise at the other.

I played Oddworld Adventures on a Game Boy Advance, so the graphics were fine to me... but there was nothing special overall. The enemies you face, such as Sligs, Slogs, and bats could have used a little more creativeness though. They look like boring little blob creatures to me.

Sound:
------------------------------
One word sums it up: boring. There is a big lack of variety in the tracks that play as you're exploring, and they all sounded the same. There are hardly any sound effects, and if there are, they don't sound realistic. The sound of gunfire coming from the enemies you fight has no realism whatsoever.

Control:
------------------------------
This is probably the worst feature of the game. Control is downright awkward. Jumping across holes in the ground is frustrating, and most of the time you'll just fall in and have to start at the beginning of the level. The list of commands is extremely small: B to jump, A to toss an item, the directional buttons to move, and the down button to crouch. It just feels strange, like you're not doing it right. The response is slow too. Bleh.

Gameplay:
------------------------------
There is really no challenge to this game. You don't have a limited amount of lives, and no matter how many times you die, you'll just start over from the beginning of the level. There are no twists to the story (what story?), and the goals are painfully similar -- light the torch-like things located in each level to access the temple. It's just boring.
Score: 3/10

Oddworld Adventures lacks in every category one way or another. It's a big disappointment for Oddworld fans, so don't bother buying it if you happen to find it somewhere. Just leave this one alone.
