Review by Super Nova

"After killing the emperor for the hundredth time I wondered why nobody likes this."

In my humble opinion, platformers are the best genre for the gameboy, as they are simple and don't require complicated graphics that the ageing console can't offer.
I bought this platformer way back in 1996. It is now 2002, and I still sometimes play on it in the absence of anything else to do. I won't give this ten out of ten, as it's nowhere near as good as the kind of games we play today. You probably can't buy this anyway, unless you really look around, but if you enjoy being illegal you can probably get it on emulator. My point is, if you're looking for a decent 2D platformer and you're not too fussy about looks this may be the game for you...

Gameplay - 9/10: It's so ridiculously simple that anyone with the tiniest amount of skill can pick this up and play it. It has a good lurning curve, so at first you can easily do the game, especially in easy mode (only the first boss might challenge rookies). However, in Jedi mode, it can be really hard, especially the later levels. The controls are much the same as most gameboy games - A to jump, B to attack, and A tice to double-jump (a nice feature that keeps you in the air for a long time).
The plot is the same as in the movie of the same name (yeah, I know it doesn't have ''super'' in it but you know what I mean) so if you've seen the movie you'll know the plot. Some nice cutscenes set precede each level. To get to the level you're at the game has a passord system.
But probably the best feature in the game is the ablity to choose your character at the beginning of each mission. The available characters depend on the plot (so in mission one you can use Luke, Leia or Chewie because they're there at the same time in the movie). The charcters have different skills (e.g. Luke's very athletic and uses his lightsabre, and Han uses a blaster for long range).

Graphics/Sound - 7/10: Well, they're fairly simplistic, but what do you expect from the gemaboy? They don't get in the way of the gameplay, and you move fluidly. The cutscenes are nice too.
The sounds are fine, with swishing lightsabre and blaster sounds, and the music is similar to the film, but don't expect orchestral quality.

Lifespan - 7/10: It depends how much you enjoy platformers. If you get bored, it's fun to finish the game to pass the time, and you can challenge yourself on Jedi mode. What really adds value to the game is the characters, so you can choose multiple paths each time you play.

Final Verdict: This really is quite a good game. Don't bother renting it, as it's not just a one off play type game - you'll want to play it lots. If you like platformers, go buy it!
Final Score: 8/10
