Bo Jackson's Hit and Run! Baseball and Football

Review by Lethargy

"Bo knows football, but he's kinda fuzzy on baseball"

Ah, Bo Jackson! His time came and went so long ago, I honestly don't remeber what teams he played for. For all you nine year olds out there who don't know who the hell I'm talking about, please allow me to explain.

In the late eighties/early nineties Bo played both baseball and football. This sports duality earned Bo a whole whack of crap:

His own TV show (Pro-stars, also with Michael Jordan, and Wayne Gretzky)

His own shoes

And yes his own videogame.

And there's where I get to the review. Developed by THQ, BJHARBAF (a fine acronym if I do say so myself), offered two play modes: baseball and football.

As it turned out, baseball mode blew. Hard. I've honestly never played a worse baseball game. The graphics were decent, but the control was impossible. I hit the ball maybe three times the entire time I owned the game. Fielding and pitching were just as hit-and-miss.

Football, on the other hand, was actually kind of fun. Two teams (black and white) duked it out on the field with you calling all the plays, then running them. Yes, just like any other football game. Really nothing special, just solid, crappy looking football.

This game could have been called THQ's football and baseball as far as I'm concerned. Bo Jackson pops up between plays and innings to offer advice like "Swing when the ball is in front of you." Alright, so that's a paraphrase, but it's surprisingly close to the real deal.

I believe this game came out after Bo busted up his hip, ending his sports career. As a result, it didn't get much exposure. Or maybe, like most GB games it just didn't get much exposure. Anyways, if you're going on a trip and need something to pass the time, pick it up. At least the football's decent.
