Wave Race
Review by Hyper speeder
"Better than most racing games for gameboy"
WaveRace is a series of racing games which started with Wave Race for Game boy, then WaveRace64 for nintendo64 and WaveRace BlueStorm for the gamecube. Unlike most racing games it takes place on Jet skies.
Story N/A
Nothing to say here, but most racing games don't have a story so this isn?t much of a problem.
Game Play 9/10
There are a few things like unlocking new Jet skies and courses that can keep you busy for quite a while. On some courses there are a few ramps to jump on like in the later WaveRace titles but it?s not much fun. The overall difficulty is a bit hard especially when it comes to the World Series but it's not that excessive. The only real problem with the game play is that there's a time limit to complete a race but it only poses a problem for beginners.
Controls 8/10
Controlling the jet ski at first can be a problem since you race on water and making some corners seem almost impossible. The only button you really press is the A button to move and press B to use the turbo boost. You don't hurt your hands playing this game unless you play for a very long time because the controls are very simple. Handling causes a bit of a problem otherwise it's near a prefect score.
Sound 4/10
This game has no background music while racing which stinks
the only sound is the buzzing of the jet skies. The sound effects aren't the best but the splashing water sounds very realistic. The only good music is that at the menu screen.
Graphics 8/10
At the introduction of the game the jet ski which goes across the screen looks very detailed but the menu screen is quite plain. While racing the items and obstacles are clearly seen.
Sometimes on rare occasions the map gets distorted, I'm not sure but I think it's because I play on a game boy advance. Other than that the graphics are good for a game boy game.
Re-play ability 7/10
This game is fine for playing one or two times after beating the game. Most people would likely rarely play it after defeating the game, at least it's still something to play if there's nothing to do. But if you're a wave race fan this game can provide hours of fun.
Overall 7/10
The fact of having no music while racing spoils the game and the computer players can be a bit unfair sometimes. Once you get over these problems you've got an above average game. If
you see anybody selling this game you should buy it. WaveRace may not be one of the best game boy games but as I said in the title it's ''Better than most racing games for gameboy''.
