"A clever little spin-off of Tetris"
In Wordtris, an extremely clever spin-off of Tetris, that I like more, your objective is to pilot blocks with a letter on them to spell words, occasionally getting a bomb block, or even a dynamite block, to clear out space, before the blocks reach the top of the screen. If you succeed, you go onto the next level, where you… do the same thing, with faster falling blocks. Oh well, it’s still worth writing about. And, here it is:
Graphics: 3/10
This game’s graphics are extremely bad, but its not the end of the world, because as long as you can see the letters on the blocks, its fine. Ah well, it’s O.K.
Sound: 4/10
The music is terrible, and I can’t remember any sound effects, but it doesn’t really effect me, as I usually turn off the volume on video games, especially on Gameboy games, as
most music on games are bad, and sound effects worse (the exception being Earthbound).
Storyline: N/A
As many games with good replay, this game has absolutely no storyline, as does Tetris. I mean Super Smash Brothers Melee had a better storyline. But that doesn’t matter, as games don’t attempt to have storylines don’t need storyline ratings, now do they?
Replay: 8/10
This game has great replay value, only a few I’ve ever played outclass it in this aspect. Trying to put letters in the right order seems boring, but, I can’t explain why its not. But then again, few can explain Tetris’s addictiveness either, and people still play that. I’ve spent hours of time and dozens of dollars (on batteries) playing this game.
Difficulty: 8/10
Except for the first few levels, on novice mode, this game is pretty hard. You’ll have to be thinking as fast as you can to make stupid obscure words, and hope for a Bomb or Dynamite block to clear the way for more words, until you get distracted for a nanosecond, and thus lose. It’s happened to me at least 100 times. On the bright side, there is a chance you’ll accidentally make a word you’ve never heard of, happens all the time.
Overall: 7/10
This game is without doubt above average, though there are better Gameboy games. It’s definitely worth buying, even in this day of 128 bit systems and a hand-held system on par with the SNES. It’s definitely worth the $20 I bought it for four years ago. Go onto Ebay and buy it, you won’t regret it.
Pros:
Replay is good
Everybody loves Tetris and it’s spin-offs
Cons:
Music sucks
I’ve yet to see a gameboy game with worse graphics
No storyline
