The Flintstones: King Rock Treasure Island
Review by Donald Love 87
"It's not a bad game, it's just that there's so many better GB platformers out there..."
Flintstones: King Rock Treasure Island
Yep, as I said; I's not bad, but there's better Game Boy platformers out there... The Super Mario Land series for an example, but let's focus on this game for now...
Graphics: 4 - Well, the sprites are actually good animated and detailed. But the backgrounds are a completely different story; they're crap, to say it out loud, crap. Mostly because they doesn't exist, just a few dots isn't what I'd like to call a background... The only things that exists in this game is objects that you can interact with, and that's bad...
Sounds: 8 - Woah, one of the better aspects of the game! You'll recognize a lot of tunes from the movies and TV series. And it's pretty good for a Game Boy too... The Sound Effects could be better but they're acceptable.
Controls: 7 - Time for my classic quote; ''It's hard to mess up with just four buttons and a steering cross.'' But this game actually has pretty good controls; easy to use, easy to remember (mostly because every Game Boy platformer has similar controls).
Difficulty: 9 - As with the most older games; King Rock hard (LOL) It's pretty hard, but not so hard that you wants to throw your Game Boy into the wall - And that's a good thing!
Plot following?: X - Nope, it's not. The plot is that Fred finds a treasure map and goes out on a treasure hunt, nothing I've seen in neither the movies nor TV series. But it's pretty good, because movie (TV series) based games usually becomes pretty crap on a Game Boy...
Game Modes: 2 - You've got single player mode, then you can play single player mode a second time, then single player mode a third time... You get it? That actually reminds me of...
...Long living: 3 - When you've finished Single Player Mode, there isn't very much left to do... But with this difficulty, it's gonna take some time to finish it...
TOTAL: 7 - Well, it's not that extremely bad actually, but when you compare it to other Game Boy platformers there's so many better ones out there, but also ones that are really bad compared to this.
Here's what I say; Only buy it if you
1. Have some money you want to get from your hands
2. Already own all good Game Boy platformers, and wants a new one
3. You are a Rock Hard Flintstones fan.
That's it!
