"Oh no...The Pink Puff Ball is gonna get us!!!"

Introduction:

Kirby’s Dream Land in the early 1990s for the original Game Boy. The little pink puff ball, known as Kirby, took the world by surprise. Although this game came out over ten years ago, I am still amazed every time I play it. There are a lot of people who still play it to this day, and they still are stunned by how great of a game Kirby’s Dream Land is.

Gameplay & Storyline: 10/10

There is not really a storyline in the game. Here it is anyways. In the game, Kirby is trying to get back at King Dedede and his henchmen for taking all of the food and Sparkling Stars in Dream Land. Kirby is trying to reach Mt. Dedede (where King Dedede lives) to get to King Dedede. You will venture through five different worlds while you are trying to get to King Dedede. The worlds you visit will range from castles all the way to clouds. There are a ton of enemies, mid-bosses, and bosses that you will encounter in your adventure to Mt. Dedede.

Graphics: 10/10

The graphics in this game are excellent. Although it is not hard to make good graphics for a Game Boy system. I still cannot get over how good the graphics are for such an early Game Boy game.

Sound: 4/10

Come on, it is a Game Boy game. Did you think the sound would be good? It isn’t to great, but the sound isn’t the main part of the game. The music is fun for the first 10 to 20 minutes that you play it, but after that it gets annoying. The only advice that I have to deal with the sound is to turn the sound all the way down on your Game Boy. Hey, look on the bright side, the music is better than what I have heard in many other Game Boy games.

Controls: 7/10

There is not much to the controls. They do get aggravating at some points of the game. Especially in some of the boss fights. Other than that, they controls are tolerable.

Difficulty: 8/10

There are two different difficulty levels on this game. The hardest one requires you to put in a code (you will get the code once you beat the game on Normal Mode). The normal mode is easy to beat. There were only two bosses that were challenging to me the first couple times through. After you beat it a few times, it should not take you any longer than 20 minutes to beat it. The extra game mode is a different story. There are some different enemies in the extra game mode ; the enemies take away more of your health when they hit you ; and the enemies are a whole lot faster. Also, the bosses have different attacks. This makes the extra game mode a whole lot more difficult.

Replayability: 8/10

Who could get tired of watching a pink puff ball go around kicking some butt? I still play this game kind of often, even though I have beaten the game a whole lot of times. You should be amused with this game for a long time. You might get bored of the normal game mode, but the extra game mode should keep you busy for a while. The extra game mode has not gotten boring to me yet!

Overall: 9/10

In conclusion, this game is one of the best games that has ever been released. Although the sound gets annoying after a while, the game play is still great. Kirby will make almost anyone fall in love with him.

Buy or Rent:

I suggest that you buy this game. The main reason being is that it would be hard to find a place that allows people to rent original Game Boy games. It may be hard to find if you try to buy it now, since it is so old. It is highly unlikely that you will find a new, factory sealed copy. Oh well, a used copy does not matter.
