Metroid II: Return of Samus

Review by SClemmons

"Metroid comes back for its second installment, only for shame."

NO! what was Nintendo thinking? What did they do to screw this up so badly? Once upon a time there was a mega-hit video game called ''Metroid''. This Metroid, originally released for the NES, went on to sell about one million copies. Meanwhile , Metroid was selling fine, Nintendo was in their evil labs concocting a brand new formula for Metroid 2: Return of Samus. They obviously used the wrong formula to do so, bastards. What is the final product you got: Trash…

Why you have to be so harsh FFM, just play nice…

You shut your mouth inside voice, back to the review. As the game begins, you’re shown getting off the space ship that has always been with the Metroid series. That is where the hell starts. With the press of the button the suckyness kicks in. You got the standard Metroid moves , jump, ball, fire, and missiles. So , what is wrong so far you ask? You got all of the original Metroid moves, how can anything go wrong. For one , the game-play. The object if the game is to kill a bunch of Metoids which seem to hide in different parts of the world that you’re on. You then have to fight these with missiles that you get throughout the game. There are a certain amount of Metroid hide within the world that you must seek out. The problem mostly is that you don’t want to do it. Hunting these elusive monster is more of a task than it is fun, which is a shame for this series

So it’s still sounding like the old metroid formula? Well, the thing that separated this one from the rest it that fact that you will be going around for hours looking for a secret passage just to advance into the game further. That seems to make it a lot less fun when searching for a passage that could have just been an easy door to go threw. Beside all of this that you got now, the ice beam and other accessories of the such are in this game still also. Though there is missing atmosphere in Metroid 2. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s on a handheld, who knows.

Just as the graphics looked on the NES, they look about the same on the game boy, minus the color. The levels don’t have much variety in the texture area. Most of the levels look about the same and don’t seem to come up with anything new throughout the game. You got lava and water that hurts you though that is about it. Don’t worry though, all of these come with their own little annoying sound effects , and do they make me want to put a bag over my face and have knives stabbed threw it. Yes reader, they’re that bad. Even the themes that play threw the levels are annoying as hell. You don’t any real original music here other than , well not even music, just one half- assed beat Nintendo made up so they could get the game out faster if you ask me.

The controls are the only halfway responsive thing on the game other than the….well….nothing else. What else d you want, the gameboy only has, and always will have 2 buttons. Jump and shoot like in any other action game for the game bay a this era of time.

So in the end, Metroid 2 : Return of Samus is just a big shame that should have never been released, the only people that will get enjoyment out of this game are Metroid fans themselves. Still, if your looking for some cheap thrills, pick it up where ever you think you can find it, I got it at the local K-mart for about 10 bucks
