Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball

Review by Gruel

"Griffey rules on Game Boy!"

Graphics: 8: The game was released in summer of '97 before the Game Boy Color came out so it was in black and white, however if you used the Super Game Boy to play, you got a green field, and the players were shades of green as well, plus you get a cool scoreboard border of Super Game Boy. Players look nice on Game Boy, and the Pitcher-Batter interface is well done and they manage to pull off a decent screen where they manage to fit in the score, inning, the stats for who's at bat and the pitcher, plus the 1st and 3rd base windows.

Sound: 4: Sound always is the weakest are in a game boy game, you got an annoying background music, but during the 7th inning stretch you get a mini tune of "Take me out to the ballgame." And I guess the sound effects are alright as well, but you'll be better off turning the sound off for this game.

Gameplay: 8: Pretty good for Game Boy, pitching is a snap, you get to pick which pitch you wanna do by pressing A or B and a direction, batters can either swing or bunt, you can steal as well, the game even include some new player features like players diving for catches, and even climbing the walls of the outfield to prevent a home run. There are a plenty modes of play, there's Home Run Derby where you face off against Ken Griffey Jr., there's also exhibition, playoffs, and a season mode where you can pick to play a short, medium or long season. You can also do trades as well, to build up your ultimate roster, thegame trakcs stats throughout the season with a battery backed memory so you always checkout who's leading in era% and who's hitting the most home runs, etc.

Replay Value: 7: You can link up and play 2-players against another friend who has a game boy and copy of this game, or you can play it with 2 controllers on the SNES if you're using the Super Game Boy on the SNES. This is also the first Griffey game to feature an MLBPA license, where the previous SNES versions of Griffey presents MLB, and Griffey's Winning Run, only had team licenses, and Griffey was the only real player in the game.
