Metroid II: Return of Samus
Review by JGuarneri
"An excellent challenge for Metroid fans."
This game continues the story of Samus Aran, a bounty hunter who saved the galaxy from the Zebes pirates and their stolen Metroid creatures. The second in the saga, this game challenges you with new enemies, loads of new weapons, and even a save feature, while maintaining the same classic element of hidden passages and loads of other secrets to keep you busy for a long time. This million seller carries on the tradition of Metroid's constant challenge.
Good Points:
This game keeps all the treasured elements of the original and throws in a load of new things too, such as the Space Jump and Spring Ball. Exploration is a must in this game (as well as all Metroid games) and requires careful examination of all areas to discover the necessary weapons and items. This game is a must-have for all Game Boy and Metroid fans alike.
Bad Points:
As could be expected, this game can be very frustrating very often. Save points are often away from major areas and can take a long time to get to. Be sure you've saved before exploring new areas; failing to do so can make you have to do something major all over again. And learning to use the Space Jump well can take a long time and will often fail you when you need it most.
Game Rating:
Graphics:10/10- This game has excellent graphics for both early and current Game Boy standards.
Gameplay:10/10- Deep, involved gameplay keeps you busy for a long time.
Fun:9/10- The frustraion involved with playing this game can take some of the fun out of playing it.
Story:7.5/10- A decent storyline, but not really good.
Control:7.5/10- Controls can sometimes be confusing in this game, and the Space Jump is hard to use at times, as well as timing normal jumps to get to where you want to.
Challenge:10/10- Unarguably one of Game Boy's most challenging games.
Replay Value:$10-15
Overall:10/10
