"Barbie: Some level of fun for just about everyone."

Gameplay: 7/10
You can go about it fast or slow, but either way it's kind of fun to be Barbie and go shopping in a mall filled with bottomless pits and floating platforms. Barbie as a mermaid is also pretty imaginative (if not entirely senseless), and it takes some skill to get around the scuba dudes.

Story: 8/10
Barbie must put together an outfit to wear on her date with Ken. This is pretty straightforward, and I can sympathize with her dilemma.

Controls: 7/10
The controls are typical of Gameboy- A jumps, B shoots. Can't get much simpler than that.

Graphics: 6/10
The graphics aren't bad at all for a Gameboy game. Sure, Barbie doesn't have a face most of the time, but the rest of her- and her background- is easily distinguishable.

Sound: 4/10
The songs can get annoying at times, and the noise it makes every time she jumps- ugh! The ''Jaws'' music helps when a Shark's about to get you, though.

Difficulty: 3/10
This game is almost too easy. The matching game is particularly effortless to win, since it gives you so many chances to mess up and try again. Some of the platforming levels are sort of a challenge, though, because you have to be quick and careful. Avoiding the enemies can be hard at times, too.

Replay Value: 6/10
Personally, I can't get enough of this game. If I ever get bored, I just whip out Barbie and beat it in about 10 minutes to watch the spectacular ending. It's a fun way to kill time if you're really bored, but there are plenty of better games to be tried.

Rent/Buy: If you've got a couple of bucks, why not?
It can't be all that expensive, and if you happen across it at a yard sale or GameStop or something, it might be worth picking up. Maybe you have a younger sibling, or you just want to try it out for yourself- It's really not just for kids, believe me!

Overall: 6/10
It's every girl's dream to be Barbie, right? Well, maybe not, but even so, this game is enjoyable by anyone. Maybe it's not your cup of tea to waltz through a shopping mall in preparation for a date but the levels can be fun and interesting, especially if you try to get every bonus available. Younger children might be more inclined to like this game, but for me, 11 years after first getting this game for my seventh birthday, it's still a good time, anytime.
