Game Boy

Review by LSU Tiger J

"What has been around longer?"

Several years after the NES was up, selling, and booming, Nintendo got the idea of making games on the go for any gamer it would be convenient for. Nintendo and other companies had squeezed out some great quality games for the Gameboy, which practically prevented it from a Virtual Boy-like fate. This little old thing kept me entertained for hours, anywhere and everywhere I had taken it, but since things such as the Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance have been out a damn long time, the GameBoy itself has lost its luster, and pose. But it's not forgotten. Bank that. Breakdown...

The Gameboy itself (8/10)

The Gameboy itself is easy to hold and is extremely durable as it's practically lived through almost all of my destructive ways. I've dropped it way too many times to count, I've also thrown it down the stairs in frustration, and it still never failed to stop working. But on the other hand, if you leave it over exposed to extreme temperatures, or leave it in the sunlight, you practically melt its innards.

Graphic Capabilites (3/10)

The Gameboy had a Z80 graphic processor which gave it more graphical ability than the NES itself, but since it didn't actually have any COLORS, the Z80 never really helped its case. The graphics most of the time strained my eyes every time I played for a continued amount of time, and I had to resort to the use of contacts.

Controlling/Handling (10/10)

How much easier could handling it be? The Gameboy is identical to an NES controller with a D-Pad on its left, start and select buttons, and two buttons on the right known as 'A' and 'B'. While the controlling pretty much rides on the game you were playing, you should have no qualms actually holding and playing the Gameboy itself.'

Games (10/10)

I came across many games for this machine. It has enough different games to make you say ''woah'', but the game library has a majority of some low quality games. But when you sort out all the piles of trash (like Ren and Stimpy: You Veediots!), you can find some of the greatest (portable) games ever made such as: Metroid 2, Dr. Mario, Link's Awakening, and the Super Mario Land series.

Finally, the Game Boy was a great accomplishment for its time, and makes a great collector's item around this day and age. But I seriously prefer the newer presentations of Nintendo..but you really don't need me to tell you that.

10 out of 10 (for the nostalgic aspect)
