"The Best Racing Game for Game Boy"

Nintendo released a racing game for the original Game Boy called "F-1 Race". How does it rate with other Game Boy games? Read my review to find out the answer to that question.

GRAPHICS--10/10

The graphics are excellent for a Game Boy game. You see a layout of the race track before each race. The backgrounds are simply amazing. When you go real fast, the grass next to the road changes shades of gray, thus giving it an excellent illusion of speed. Also, crashing into billboards are cool-looking. Overall, the graphics are excellent.

SOUND--10/10

The sounds are excellent as well. The sound of the engine is nicely done. As far as music is concerned, there's a nice variety of songs, which fit perfect for this type of video game. The braking sounds are excellent as well. Overall, the sounds are excellent.

CONTROLS--10/10

The controls are perfect for a Game Boy game. You got your normal controls for acceleration and braking. This game has an innovation--the Jet Boost. You hold Up on the d-pad to activate the Jet Boost, but you only have so much jet fuel, thus adding some strategy to the controls. The braking is very responsive, thus making it realistic for a Game Boy game. Overall, the controls are excellent.

GAME PLAY--10/10

You have lots of game options to choose from. For one-player games, you have the "Grand Prix" mode which you must place in the No. 1 position to advance into the game, the "Time Attack" mode which you can race to beat your own personal best, and "Multi-Player", which up to four player can race against each other, via the Game Boy 4-player adaptor and three standard link cables. With the "Time Attack", you can choose if you want other cars to appear as obstacles or just have your car on the road only. You got a lot of race tracks on the multi-player mode. Overall, the Game Play is excellent.

OVERALL--10/10

F-1 Race is the best racing game for the Game Boy. Buy it for yourself and see what a Game Boy racer should be like.
