Paperboy

Review by Rej72380

"The Daily Sun Wants You!"

In 1984, Atari released an arcade game that was unique and a lot of fun. The name of that game is Paperboy. In 1990, Mindscape released a Game Boy version of Paperboy. How does this game stack up with the other Game Boy games? Read my review to find out the answer to that question.

GRAPHICS--10/10

The graphics in this version are excellent. They are as close to the arcade version in all ways. The title screen shows the front page of a newspaper that has the picture of the Paperboy and the head line "Paperboy Delivers!" The tornadoes have an awesome effect, graphics-wise. You can even tell the difference between the Subscribers' houses and the Non-subscribers', even on the original Game Boy. Overall, the graphics are excellent.

SOUNDS--10/10

The sounds are excellent as well. You've got dogs barking when they chase you, windows shattering, trash cans being hit by newspapers, even the sound when you crash (and lose a life). The music consist of a song during normal game play and one during the Training Course, both of which are excellent. Overall, the sounds are excellent.

CONTROLS--10/10

The controls are very simple to use. You've got the two buttons to throw the newspapers at. You can also speed up your bike or even put on the brakes to slow you down. Navigating through the neighborhood is very easy to do in this game. Overall, the controls are excellent.

STORY LINE--10/10

You are hired by the Daily Sun to deliver newspapers. Unfortunately, the route they give you is through the most dangerous neighborhood even known to man--the one with lawn mowers that have minds of their own, tires that run amuck, even the Grim Reaper that resides in this neighborhood. If you can't get the job done, consider looking for a job at Burger Hut. The story line is very unique.

GAME PLAY--10/10

The game play is excellent. Although you have to deliver the papers to the Subscribers' houses, you can also break the Non-subscribers' windows. You can also knock down trash cans, tombstones (why they have those in this neighborhood is beyond me), even light posts. The Training Course offers a sort of challenging bonus stage after each day is done. You can even play a two-player game, without a link cable (just pass the system to the other player when it's his turn). Overall, the game play is excellent.

OVERALL--10/10

By all means, buy this game. It is very challenging and keeps you entertained for a while. Even fans of the arcade version will have fun with this one.
