Bill & Ted's Excellent Game Boy Adventure
Review by Rev4n
"Bogus."
Bill S. Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan would be most displeased with this video game. For starters, it has absolutely nothing to do with the movie itself. Your job as an indecipherable blob that looks like maybe a person is to collect little orbs while dodging other equally blob-looking historical figures. As a puzzle-ish type of game, it can be mildly amusing if you're about 6. It's definitely just a game pumped out to make money, with little to no thought about gameplay. This game makes later licensed movie games like A Bug's Life for N64 look like masterpieces (and I assure you, A Bug's Life is not a masterpiece).
The sound is not bad, it's your everyday typical GameBoy music/effects. Not bad, not good, and overall worth being there.
The graphics suck. Compared to even the much earlier Super Mario Land, Bill and Ted come out looking bad. Very blocky and very undetailed. Obviously, they're grayscale, which doesn't help anything. Bad, bad, bad.
The gameplay is tolerable, but boring and repetitive. There's not much of an object as far as I can tell, just.... collect your orbs. Did Bill and Ted collect orbs in the movie? No, they did not. The physics, I was surprised, were actually good. Or, physics if you can call it that. The hangtime for jumps feels very natural, much like that in the Mario games. The controls are fairly fluid, and are very effective as far as simply playing the game goes.
Overall, it's a bad game made to make money off the success of a good movie. This happens a lot. Don't buy Bill and Ted the game unless you want a bad game or you're an obsessed fan. I doubt you'll find it in a store anyway, but if you do, don't buy it unless it's under 5 dollars, and even then, know what you're getting. 3 GameFAQs reviewers usually aren't wrong.
