"As if Bart and the Beanstalk wasn't enough..."

Don't get me wrong, The Simpsons is a great show and has earned every bit of respect that it gets, but the video games...FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, WHY CAN THE SIMPSONS NOT GET A GOOD VIDEO GAME??? It's been out for so long and I've had it for so long, so I'm finally going to tell the world what I've been waiting to say about this game for so long...

GAMEPLAY: 2/10
You play as Bart, trying to escape from a camp run by Mr. Burns' nephew. To escape, you'll have to battle your way through the cafeteria, the Capture the Flag field (Team A: Bart. Team B: Everyone else) and across the rivers and streams. The enemies are the same kids over and over, with the exception of the bosses, who are nothing more than a bigger kid that you need to use some reflex to knock out of a tree house. You can shoot spitballs at enemies to freeze them in their tracks for a few seconds, or you can use a boomerang to knock enemies off the screen. (just as long as you get the boomerang back when it comes back) This game is nothing more than crawling up trees, getting through the side scrolling levels and manuevering your way past enemies.

SOUND: 1/10
The sound is terrible. There is nothing worse than listening to the 40 second Simpsons theme in an 8-bit loop. Of course, there are also sound effects. The sound effects are terrible, they're usually nothing more than either beeps or weird sounds that sound like they're coming from a sick duck. The highlight is hearing Lisa talk on a rare occasion in the game. She almost sounds like she does in the cartoon if you hit her and she says "Stop it, Bart!".

GRAPHICS: 2/10
The reason the graphics get a 2 is because you can actually tell what it is that you're in front of. At least you know that you're standing in front of a tree or trying to dodge some bees hovering in a repeating pattern. The enemies actually look okay for gameboy standards, but that's the highlight.

DIFFICULTY: 3/10
The game really isn't too difficult. The concept is so basic, you should be able to breeze through this game with no problem. This game is a great filler for less than a week. Heck, it'll probably be less than 4 days.

REPLAYABILITY: 1/10
Why anyone would want to play this game again is a mystery to me. In fact, I don't know why anyone would want to play it at all. There is nothing to do your second time around that you didn't do your first, nor is there any reason to want to try it again.

Total Score: 9/50
Averaged Score: 1.8 (rounds up to 2)

Buy or Rent?
I doubt you can even rent these games anymore. If you're walking through your EB games and you see this for three dollars, skip it and instead buy the Final Fantasy II right next to it.
