Sonic Jam
Review by Ace Wing
"This is a VERY sad Sonic game..."
Thankfully, this is the only Sonic game that came out on the ill-fated Game.com hand held system. This game may be pretty bad, but it doesn't hurt Sonic's reputation that much since most people don't even know that this game exists. Now, on to those lovely ratings.....
GAME-PLAY: 4/10
First of all, this shouldn't even be considered a Sonic game. It's pretty bad. It says that it takes levels from Sonic 1, 2, and 3, but they have totally different levels and zones. Second of all, it's NOTHING like the Sonic Jam on the Sega Saturn.
You can choose to play as three different Sonic characters: Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles in three different Sonic games that are different from their Sega Genesis counter-parts. Each game has 5 zones, which all by the way have the SAME layout, which is boring.
There is absolutely no story plot, you fight a boss in Zone 3 and Zone 5 and the game itself is EXTREMELY easy. You can finish the game in 15 min. tops. Oh, and by the way, there is special stages, BUT no chaos emeralds.
GRAPHICS: 3/10
The graphics are pretty sad. They are blurry and the game suffers from lag. That is not a good thing, when you consider that Sonic games are all about speed. I can't forget to mention that since this is on the Game.com, everything is black, white, and just plain ugly.
SOUND: 1/10
.......Music? What music??? Well, in this game, there IS music, but it is the same horrible sounding tune throughout the WHOLE game!!! AHHH!!!!
RE-PLAYABILITY: 2/10
This is as almost as bad as the sound. I mean, once you play this game, you'll probably get past the horrible sound nd finish it, but you probably won't be playing this game EVER again.
OVERALL: 3/10
I was gonna give this a 2/10, but just the fact that it's a Sonic game, I bumped it up a notch. I mean, it's not the worst game in the world.....but it's definitely NOT the best Sonic game. When you buy a Sonic game, you expect quality and fast pace action, but this game doesn't have any of that.
BUY or RENT?
Neither, stay clear from this game, but if you are one of the unfortunate people who bought a Game.com, then you might want to pick this one up. Game.com doesn't have very much good games at all, so it won't hurt to get it. You can probably find it pretty cheap on EBAY or something. If you don't have a Game.com then there is no reason to buy one just to get this game. Nuff said.
