Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Review by Shadow Nights
"Interesting, but not as good as the Genesis version."
Gameplay: (7 out of 10) The gameplay in this game is about the same as all other Sonic games, push a button and the character goes one way, FAST. (My favorite kind of game!) The only trouble with it is its to freakin' hard! In the Genesis version I can get clear to the end in less than an hour, but this one takes me forever just to get through one level, its ok if you like challenging. (Really challenging)
Graphics: (10 out of 10) The graphics in this game are absoloutely incredible! The colors are perfect, the detail is amazing, and the levels are laid out beautifully. You can actually see Sonic's legs when he's running, not just the usual blur. It rivals Game Boy Advance!
Sound: (7 out of 10) Its the usual 8 bit sound effects, beep, bop, bleep, nothing incredible.
Music: (10 out of 10) I love the music in this game! It has an incredibly cool super Sonic soundtrack, its Sonic music at its best! (The music on Underground zone is especially cool)
Bosses: Weird, how did they come up with these bosses?! A crab? A fire breathing chicken? The bosses in this game are incredibly hard, despite their weird appearance. It really showcases Yuji Naka's creativity.
Replay Value: (10 out of 10) I've played thie first stage over and over again, I play it every time I get in the car and I never get tired of it! I must have played it at least 40 times in the last month, truly remarkable, usually I don't do that sort of thing.
I only have one problem with this game, its nothing like it's Genesis counterpart! None of the original stages make it to the Game Gear, where there was Green Hill Zone on the Genesis it is now replaced with Underground Zone, where there once was Chemical Plant Zone in the Genesis version there is now Sky High Zone, aside from its odd deviances from the original its quite a good game that should keep you busy for a while. You could call it the Genesis version's evil counterpart, Its an incredible game, just don't be an idiot like me and buy it 'cause you want a portable version of the highly acclaimed Genesis title. All Sonic fans should get this game though, you can pick it up on E Bay for about 5 bucks, its more than worth it.
