7a. Day 1 Courtroom Phase Part 1
Episode 1 - The Reversal of Memories. Day 1 Courtroom Phase Part 1.
The scene opens on a rainy night. You see a body laying face down on the
ground with someone else looking over. He is wondering what he just did. A
flashback occurs that shows a man with an umbrella telling you not to see this
woman ever again. It is for your own good. Something bad will happen to you
if you don't listen to him. He is about to tell you something, but you don't
believe him. The next thing you know, the guy you were talking to is dead.
This episode takes place 5 years back. It is the second time the lawyer
Chihiro Ayasato appeared in court.
April 11. Chihiro is a little nervous. You play the role of Chihiro in this
episode. Your boss, Hoshikage tells you to calm down. He is here to she how
well you do in your first time out. You tell him it is your second time.
Hoshikage is surprised you wanted this case only since last night. Your
client is Ryuuichi Naruhodou, at the time he was 21 years old. At this time,
he is a third year Art Student at Yuumei University. He also has a cold, so
he is wearing a mask to cover his mouth. His coughing can get a little
annoying. Naruhodou is the suspect is the murder of Kikuzou Nonda. Kikuzou
is a fourth year pharmaceutical student at the same school as Naruhodou. This
is the story of Chihiro Ayasato, the rookie lawyer. The first time she stood
in court was a year ago. That trial caused enough damage for her to dread
coming back to court. Today, she will try once again, this time to win.
10:00 AM, Courtroom # 2. The trial of Ryuuichi Naruhodou is now in session.
Both sides are ready. The judge asks you that the original lawyer assigned to
this case was Hoshikage. You say Hoshikage had urgent business to attend to,
even though he is sitting right beside you. The judge worries that if you
are all right. The judge asks Prosecutor Auchi to present his opening
argument. Auchi says the crime happened at the campus of Yuumei University.
The victim was Kikuzou Nonda. Auchi then presents a photograph of the crime
scene. The picture shows Kikuzou laying face down on the ground, with a
broken umbrella beside him, and a cut power line overhead. A student found
the body, and reported it.
The suspect was seen running away from the crime scene. After taking the
picture as evidence, the judge asks, what was the cause of death? Auchi says
the victim died in an unusual way. He asks you to answer to the judge what
killed the victim. It should be an easy question to answer if you look in
the evidence file. Look for the file named Autopsy Record of Kikuzou Nonda.
It says the cause of death was electric shock. Then the prosecution brings up
another important point, the motive for the murder. There was trouble between
the victim and the suspect. Auchi says if you are a lawyer, the you should
know what the trouble was. The judge asks you to show the proof. Remember
that you can show a person's profile as evidence too.
Show him the profile of the person named Chinami Miyanagi. Auchi says, good.
This Chinami is the lover of the accused one, Ryuuichi Naruhodou, but a half
year ago, Chinami was also seeing the victim. This case must have something
to do with her. Hoshikage mentions that's Auchi style, to create an
impression to the judge before hearing the testimony. For the prosecution's
first witness, Auchi calls Ryuuichi Naruhodou to the stand. The judge asks
you if that is all right. You think to yourself, it is fine, since you
believe Naruhodou is innocent. You say, no objections. Auchi asks for name
and occupation. Ryuuichi Naruhodou is the name. Occupation is suspect.
Before the arrest, a student.
The judge orders him to testify about the connection between him and the
victim. In the testimony, Naruhodou says he was there, but he didn't kill.
He just found the victim's corpse. He didn't know the victim that well and
he never talked to that wearer of the Great Britain. The judge understands,
but Hoshikage points out that it is not that simple. Auchi says you are
forgetting one thing. You must cross examine the statement made by the
witness. The key is to look for any contradictions between the statement and
the evidence. However, Naruhodou is your client. Even so you still must do
your duty. You just hope the witness isn't lying.
In the cross exam, at the part where he talks about the victim and the
Great Britain, probe deeper to ask how he knows that if he didn't know the
victim so well. The judge tells the witness to add to his testimony, the
reason he knows. Naruhodou says, there was a huge Union Jack on the back of
the victim's shirt. Now show him the crime scene photo as evidence. There is
nothing written on the victim's back! Naruhodou explains that's a leather
jacket the victim is wearing. The Union Jack symbol is on the shirt. You
mention that if the witness just passed by the scene, then the witness would
not know what the victim was wearing underneath the jacket. The witness cries
and says he is sorry.
Auchi says you just proved the defendant didn't just pass by the crime scene.
Auchi asks why doesn't the witness take any medicine for his cold. Naruhodou
says he does, and the prosecution wonders if this 'Kazegoroshi Z' product is
the one he is taking. The answer is yes, Auchi wonders if the defendant
still has this medicine. The answer is that he dropped it somewhere. Auchi
asks if he knows where that bottle is. Then Auchi shows the judge another
picture of the crime scene. The second picture shows the victim gripping the
bottle with his left hand. The victim is also wearing a watch, the kind with
a hour and minute hand. You object, saying that medicine is common. Auchi
responds with, this bottle has the fingerprints of the accused, Ryuuichi
Naruhodou.
Auchi then says it's likely that Kikuzou sensed the murderous intent of the
defendant, so he grabbed the bottle and hid it in his hand. This was to be
used to accuse the real killer, Naruhodou. The judge pounds his hammer to
restore order in the court. The prosecution enters the new picture and bottle
as evidence. Auchi says the victim's watch was broken. The watch stopped
after the strong electrical shock. Now the defendant must explain. You hope
the witness won't throw out any more lies. In the testimony, Naruhodou says,
the victim wanted to meet him. The victim was a pharmacist after all. We met
in the backyard of the school building at around 2:45 PM. We talked, then at
around 3 PM, we broke off. When the witness returned, the victim was down on
the ground. Naruhodou drank the Kazegoroshi Z medicine for the last 2 to 3
days, but on the day of the murder, that bottle was missing after lunch.
In the cross exam, probe at the part where he says they met at 2:45 PM, You
wonder if that's the time Kikuzou proposed to meet. Naruhodou says yes. The
judge asks to explain the victim's role as a pharmacist. The witness explains
how they mix chemicals and such as experiments. They are the alchemists of
Yuumei University. The laboratory has some strange stuff in it like machines
that produce high voltage currents. Ask him more about the Pharmacy
Department. The witness doesn't know much, except the fact that high voltage
current uses voltage higher than the standard. It uses it's own machine.
There is an electrical pole planted in the school yard. The wire runs
overhead.
You think to yourself, you are starting to see where this is going. Now probe
at the part where he says the bottle was missing the day of the murder. He
says he ate lunch with Chii-chan, like always. The judge pounds the hammer
down and says that's enough to the crowd. The defendant and victim met near
the time of death, and the defendant returned to the crime scene. Auchi
couldn't explain the bottle, but the judge won't believe the defendant's
testimony. There is one problem still remaining. The method of murder. The
murder weapon hasn't been presented yet. You think to yourself, how did the
victim die? If you can prove this, you can escape this crisis. You will
attempt to do this by showing the Crime Scene Photo # 1.
The judge says he can't see anything that resembles a murder weapon. Show the
judge by pointing to the dangling power line spark in the picture. Remember
the testimony how the lab uses high voltage wire? It is being carried over
special lines. It is natural to think this is the cause of the murder. Auchi
says, that may be true, but what does that mean? The one who could use that
power line is the defendant. The prosecution then says, he has one more piece
of evidence. It is the proof that shows Ryuuichi Naruhodou as the murderer.
It is the fingerprints. Look at the picture again. The victim is wearing a
leather jacket. There are fingerprints on the leather. On the chest area,
the palm of the defendant is clearly printed on there!
The only way that could happen is that the defendant pushed the victim into
the electrical wire. The judge says there is no doubt. Hoshikage says it is
over. Maybe it is time to give up. The defendant looks guilty. You believe
the defendant is innocent. There is no need for anymore debate. The judge is
about to hand down the verdict, but you tell him to wait. You ask Naruhodou
to tell the whole truth. He can't, but you tell him to trust me. No matter
what he says, you will believe him. Auchi objects, saying it is already
proven that the defendant is guilty. Naruhodou then agrees to tell what
really happened.
Naruhodou says he did push the victim. A flashback to the time the victim is
still alive. Kikuzou tells Naruhodou not to see her again. Naruhodou
disagrees. Kikuzou responds by saying, it's for your own good. Listen, that
woman... Before he could finish his sentence, Naruhodou pushes him down and
calls him a liar. Is that true? Asks the judge. The defendant says yes. It
doesn't matter since he is already is a suspect. Naruhodou begs for another
chance to give the truth in testimony. In the testimony, he says the victim
talked bad things about Chinami. Naruhodou shoved the victim to the ground.
He thought he heard a loud sound. After walking away, he got concerned. When
he returned to the scene, the victim was dead.
Auchi says it is simple. When pushed, the victim touched the electrical wire
and died of the shock. There was light rain at the murder scene. A wet
victim would conduct electricity well. Naruhodou says when he pushed the
victim, no electrical wire was dangling. Even he would notice something like
that. The judge says, if the testimony doesn't reveal anything new, he will
hand out the verdict. In the cross exam, when he talks about some loud sound,
probe deeper to find out what it was. It was pretty loud, something like...
Like the sound of being shocked. Auchi finishes that sentence for him. You
object. You ask for more detail. When the defendant pushed the victim,
Kikuzou's umbrella dropped. Kikuzou fell on top of the umbrella and broke it.
That's the sound he heard.
The judge asks if that statement is important. Of course it is. It is the
new information you were looking for. You ask that statement to be officially
added to the testimony. The judge does so. Now you have something to work
with. Auchi says it is fitting for a cheap lawyer to have cheap information.
In the revised testimony, at the point where he says the victim fell right on
the umbrella, show him the Crime Scene Photo # 1 again. You wonder why he
didn't mention this earlier. You could have used this to counter-attack much
earlier. Auchi asks you to explain. Look at the picture. See what conflicts
with the testimony? The victim is not on top of the umbrella. It is sitting
next to the electric pole. This means after the defendant left, the victim
was moved from the original place.
So, this means the victim wasn't dead when the defendant pushed him! After
settling the crown down, the judge asks the prosecution the whereabouts of the
umbrella in question. It was recovered, so it is now evidence. Auchi says
the wind could have blown the umbrella away. You object and say the body of
the victim was on top of the umbrella, so it's impossible for the wind to move
it. As long as there is doubt, the judge cannot make a ruling just yet. The
judge is surprised that a hole like that was found. You take Naruhodou's
testimony as written evidence. Auchi gives a laugh and says he knew the
defendant's testimony would not be enough. He has another witness prepared, a
substantial witness at that.
Her name is Chinami Miyanagi. She witnessed everything. Chinami was there at
the scene of the crime the moment the murder took place! You have been
waiting for this moment. The judge orders a 20 minute break. After that, you
shall hear the testimony of Chinami Miyanagi. Same day, 11:52 AM, Waiting
Room # 3. Naruhodou is sorry for what he did. The next witness is Chii-chan,
right? She will save me. Why do you say that? Naruhodou claims Chinami is
the person of fate. You want to know more. Naruhodou says about a half year
back, the two met in the courthouse. He was studying to be a lawyer and one
day he met Chinami in the underground reference room. He believes that was
fate. She gave him this heart-shaped pendant. It is the symbol of love.
That day Chinami had it dangling around her neck, but she wanted Naruhodou to
have it. This present also has a small bottle in the middle. Naruhodou was
so excited. He showed it off to everyone he met. You take this pendant as
evidence. However, Chinami did seem intent on getting that pendant back.
Strange, huh? You think for a moment, then check to see if the date the two
met was August 27 (8-27). Naruhodou was shocked that you knew that. On that
day, in this courthouse, something happened. It was a case that made the
newspaper. The article is titled, "The Murder Case in the Courtroom?". When
Hoshikage reads it, he understands why you took today's case out of urgency.
The case now and the case then are connected. It is something you want to
finish. Hoshikage admits it is not much to work with, so he will search the
Reference Room for more clues. Time's almost up. Court is about to start.

7b. Day 1 Courtroom Phase Part 2
Day 1 Courtroom Phase Part 2. 12:13 PM, Courtroom # 2. When court resumes,
Auchi calls Chinami Miyanagi to the witness stand. In his long life, many
witnesses fooled the judge, so he never thought he could trust
anyone. This witness though, he feels he can believe in anything she says.
He tells the witness not to be afraid. If anyone says anything bad, he will
pound the hammer down. She introduces herself as Chinami Miyanagi, a third
year literature student at Yuumei University. Auchi and the judge are charmed
by this witness. Chinami tells them there is a mistake somewhere. Ryuu-chan
would not kill anyone. The judge orders her to testify what she saw the time
of the murder.
Chinami testifies that after her studies were over, she went to see Ryuu-chan.
In the backyard Ryuu-chan and Non-chan were talking. Suddenly Non-chan
wobbled, then fell. At that moment, Ryuu-chan noticed her. She went to
inform another student of what happened. Afterward, the judge says this means
the defendant didn't do anything. Objection! Auchi says he understands the
love between couples, but we are looking for the truth. You want to
cross examine the statement. Chinami says to you, nothing's changed. Auchi
wonders how you two now each other. You tell him we have met somewhere
before. So, at the point where Chinami says Non-chan wobbled then fell, probe
deeper to find ask if the victim fell by himself. Chinami says yes. You
confirm if the defendant didn't touch the victim. The witness insists that
Ryuu-chan did nothing.
You point out the contradiction by showing how the victim's jacket has the
fingerprints of the defendant. It has already been proven that Naruhodou
pushed the victim. You tell the witness, she doesn't need to cover for the
defendant anymore. Chinami revises her statement, and says she didn't see the
moment of the pushing. She didn't see any sign of struggle, and she didn't
hear any noise. Now show her the written testimony of Naruhodou as an
objection. Naruhodou heard a loud and dull sound. If she was nearby, then
she should have heard something. Auchi objects, and says it was a noise that
wouldn't remain in her memory. You argue back that the statement by the
defendant, the loud noise, would make her remember.
Chinami says, wait! There is a reason she didn't hear anything. She was
wearing headphones and listened to a song. Both ears were plugged and it was
raining. The thunder went wild that night, and the witness is not fond of
thunder. To prevent from hearing the noise, she put on the headphones. Auchi
then says this eliminates the contradiction in her statement. You think to
yourself, there is an important point here that can turn the tides in this
case. That day, thunder was crying. That is electrical energy. The cause of
death of the victim was electrical shock. The next thought is the victim
could have been struck by lightening! Even the judge hadn't thought of that.
The victim died by accident!
Auchi objects and says the prosecution side searched out the weather forecast
that day. At the time of the murder, there were no lightening strikes in the
area. Furthermore, the electrical line in the picture shows proof of having
something to do with the case. The proof is the testimony of the students
inside the chemistry laboratory. They say on that day, around 3 PM, all their
equipment lost power and completely stopped. That lab used high voltage
wires. They lost power due to the severed power line you see in the picture.
The time the machines stopped was 3 PM, the same time the victim was killed.
This means the victim was killed by the power line's electrical shock.
According to the students, that power line was getting pretty old. They
planned on repairing it sometime soon.
It wouldn't be surprising if a little shock caused the line to go down. You
take this information and put it in the evidence file. The judge says the
line was delicate, so if there were no shock, then the line would still be up.
The judge asks what you think the cause of the line going down was. You think
to yourself, the situation doesn't look good. There is only one chance for
retaliation. Show the judge the profile of Ryuuichi Naruhodou. Remember his
testimony? The loud sound around 3 PM. The machines stopped around 2:55 PM.
Naruhodou's shove caused the power line to go down. The prosecution agrees
and the shove resulted in the victim's death. You object and tell him, that's
not the case.
The place the victim was pushed, was the spot of the umbrella, which was near
the electrical pole. The victim crashed into that pole when pushed. The
resulting shock cut the power line. However, this wasn't planned. If the
victim crashed into the pole at far end, he wouldn't be shocked. This means
the one who shocked the victim was someone else other than the defendant.
What to you have to say, Auchi? Chinami interrupts and says what she saw was
different than what the lawyer side is suggesting. She wants another chance
to testify. The judge gives her the green light to go. So, it looks like the
real Chinami has appeared.
Chinami testifies that Ryuu-chan pushed the victim twice. The first time he
pushed the victim into the pole, knocking the power line down. Then as
Non-chan tried to escape, Ryuu-chan gave chase, and body rammed the victim
from behind. From the time the power line was cut down, to the time the
victim was shocked, no more than one minute passed. In the cross examination,
at the statement about no more than one minute passed, show her the evidence
marked, Crime Scene Photo # 2. Chinami says that medicine is Ryuu-chan's
favorite. You respond by saying, that's not the point. The important thing
is the wrist watch. This watch stopped when the victim was shocked. At
around 3:05 PM, that's the time of death.
Remember when the power line was cut? At 2:55 PM. Can the witness explain
the 10 minute blank period between the cut power line to the victim getting
killed? The defense believes there is someone else out there, the real
murderer. Auchi doesn't think so. You object and say, the 10 minutes of
blank space does exist. Then who else could have done it besides the
defendant? There is one who could have done it. After the defendant left
the victim, a chance existed for someone else to come in. The judge asks you,
who are you accusing? You will tell, but the judge warns you, if you accuse
someone not related to the case, he will hand out a penalty.
Show the judge the profile of Chinami Miyanagi. Auchi objects, but you
explain there was 10 minutes between the time the line was cut and the
victim getting shocked. Where was the witness during this time? If Chinami
didn't call for help, and was listening to songs on her headphones, then she
must have been rooting for one side! Order in the court, order in the court.
You say the witness saw the two fighting. After Naruhodou left the scene,
Chinami pushed the victim into the power line. Chinami still claims she
didn't do anything. Naruhodou says, wait! The defense will take back their
statement. You disagree. Naruhodou says Chii-chan wouldn't do something like
that. The judge warns him not to get out of the defendant's chair at free
will. Naruhodou has to be dragged off by court officials.
Then a voice tells you that you shouldn't be involved with people like that.
It is Hoshikage. He made it back in time. He has the information on the
Chinami Case from the newspaper. The materials are from police records.
Looking at the notes, the case happened in an underground cafeteria on 4 PM,
8-27. The victim was a lawyer named, Souryuu Kaminogi, 28. The suspect was
Chinami Miyanagi, 19. While searching a certain case, the lawyer Kaminogi
arranged a meeting with the suspect. While interviewing in the cafeteria,
he was poisoned. The poison was found inside the lawyer's coffee. The
poison was not found anywhere near the crime scene nor from anywhere near the
victim's body. The route the poison got to the cup was also unknown. This
case will come into play in the present time, so it's worth remembering.
Back to the trial, Chinami says she wouldn't pin the crime on Ryuu-chan.
Where's the motive? The answer hides within the police report. Naruhodou and
Chinami met the same day the murder in the courthouse occurred. There must be
some connection. So, you demand a testimony, one about the time the witness
met Ryuuichi. Auchi objects and says that's not relevant to the case at hand.
You object back and say the witness claims she had no reason to pin the crime
on the defendant. The defense has a right to dispute that claim. The judge
agrees. It is time to win or lose now. In the testimony, Chinami says she
met Ryuu-chan about a half year ago. The spot of destiny was the underground
reference room located in the courthouse. It was pretty much "Love at first
sight". They had been seeing each other ever since.
For the cross exam, at the point where she says it was the spot of destiny,
probe deeper to ask what a strange place to meet. Chinami says it is not
strange. Ryuu-chan is studying to be lawyer. You say it's not about the
defendant, but about the witness. What would a literature student be doing
in courthouse reference room? Auchi objects and says that's irrelevant to
this case, but you manage to get Chinami to add to her testimony. In the
revised statement, Chinami says she came to the courthouse to look for
materials on a report she was working on. Now on this statement, show her the
Police Report. Chinami wasn't there for the materials. She had more
important matters to attend to.
You explain that a half year ago, there was a murder case in this courtroom
as shown in this report. It is the one with the lawyer being poisoned. The
suspect in that case was Chinami Miyanagi. She was the main suspect in that
case. Auchi tries to speak, but Chinami interrupts him. Chinami explains,
in that case, the police did cast a look of suspicion on her. She wants to
testify she had nothing to do with that case. You think to yourself, you have
just connected the two cases together. Now it is just a matter of pressing
the issue, and continuing the attack. Chinami testifies that she met with a
lawyer in the cafeteria and they talked for awhile. She left her seat, then
the murder happened.
The poison was liquid, and a lethal dose of 10 milliliters was detected.
Furthermore, the poison used in the crime was pretty special. Chinami claims
to be innocent. There was no way to get her hands on that kind of poison.
Auchi says, this witness has no relation to that case. You disagree as you
will prove in the cross exam. On the part where Chinami says she couldn't get
her hands on the poison, show her the profile of Kikuzou Nonda. Chinami could
get her hands on poison anytime, if she went to that person's lab. The victim
was seeing the witness a half year ago. He was in the Department of Pharmacy.
The laboratory he was working in was used for scientific experiments. That's
the route the criminal used to get that special poison.
Chinami did get that poison, waited for the right time, and placed it in the
cup. Chinami explains that the amount put in the coffee was 10 milliliters.
In order to carry that much, you would need a container. When Chinami was
searched, they found no such container. You say that could have been
destroyed anywhere. Chinami responds by saying if she did dispose a medicine
container, show the proof. The judge says as long as you don't show the
evidence, your argument is void. Here's your chance. You think to yourself,
the container disappeared after the murder. The witness and courthouse was
searched, but nothing was found. So where did it disappear to? Show the
judge Chinami's Present.
Chinami had to get rid of the container in a hurry. That's why she pushed
upon an innocent person. It would be someone who wouldn't be searched. The
judge asks who. The answer is Ryuuichi Naruhodou. Auchi asks if the
defendant and witness are working together. You say no, the poison was her
present. Chinami stutters when she sees that pendant. The small glass bottle
in the center. That is suspicious. The witness gave away this bottle on
8-27, the same day of the murder in the courthouse. That was the only way she
could hide that piece of evidence! You continue on and say, there is no more
poison in that bottle, but analysis should show some traces. Naruhodou throws
out an objection in defense of Chinami.
You wonder why he would cover for the witness. He is devoted to her. You ask
if he knows why Chinami is seeing him. Naruhodou thinks it is his devotion.
You plea to him to wake up. Anybody can see by now, the real reason why
Chinami tried to get close to you. For your pendant. In the waiting room
during the break, Naruhodou said so himself, Chinami kept asking for that
pendant back. This pendant is a fatal piece of evidence against her. That's
why she fought to get it back. Naruhodou says it is a lie, but the fact is
Naruhodou didn't return the pendant. On top of that, he showed it off to
everyone he met. So she... Naruhodou cries and runs out of the courtroom.
The judge says, the court officials caught him, and will return shortly.
You notice the pendant is missing. It must have been taken on Naruhodou's
way out. The judge says this is unheard of. Naruhodou says he is sorry upon
return. Where is the evidence? Naruhodou says he ate it. You don't
understand. He crunched the pendant to pieces with his teeth. The crowd gets
excited, but you tell the judge to stop the trial. You worry if Naruhodou's
stomach is all right. He could have ingested poison. Auchi objects and says
see what you just proved? There is no poison in that pendant. The defendant
ate that pendant, yet he is fine. Poison? That's just the delusions of a
rookie lawyer.
Chinami says there is no more poison in that bottle. The poison is gone,
so... Auchi interrupts her and says, it is good to trust the defendant.
That's the same for him. He trust what the witness Chinami has to say with
his life. The judge says he won't accept the defense's plea. A rookie may
not understand it yet, but evidence is what makes the law. You think to
yourself, you came this far, you can't run now. The judge says the doubt on
Chinami is gone, but Naruhodou says wait. He is sorry that he forgot.
Chihiro did believe in him, and there is something he hasn't told yet. The
day he met Kikuzou Nonda... Nonda said last night, someone stole some poison
from his laboratory. Also, a half year ago, another sample was missing too.
During that time, that certain someone visited. That someone had to have
stolen it!
You ask if that's really what Nonda said. Furthermore, on that day, after
pushing the victim away, he returned to the scene. Chii-chan was there.
She sat beside the body. Chii-chan told Naruhodou not to testify about
that fact. He is sorry. Auchi has doubts, but Naruhodou pleas that
Chii-chan is not the murderer. You think to yourself, Chinami did steal
that poison a half year ago. Along with Naruhodou's testimony, there is
only one answer. According to that testimony, the poison was stolen the
night before. The purpose was to murder someone. You think carefully.
Chinami had to get something back. Who was Chinami Miyanagi planning to
murder?
The answer is Ryuuichi Naruhodou! He was a hindrance to her. Auchi says
that's outrageous. Kikuzou was the victim. You agree, that's what ended up
happening. However Nonda's cause of death was electric shock, not by poison.
Chinami planned the poison for Naruhodou. Isn't Chinami the lover of
Naruhodou? You say there was something more important for Chinami. The
evidence, the pendant. Why murder? A half year ago, in the cafeteria where
the lawyer was killed, Chinami could think of only one thing. How to quickly
get rid of the pendant. She thought it would be safe with Naruhodou. A
problem arose, however. He didn't return the pendant after the case cooled
off. That's why Chinami planned to kill Naruhodou, in order to get that
incriminating piece of evidence back.
Naruhodou will not believe it, but Chinami tells him to get off the seat. She
says he is unreliable to the ends of space. She told him to be quiet. Now
Chinami says it looks as thought she is the murderer, but do you have proof?
The pendant became a snack of that crybaby. Chinami tells the judge, don't
just stand there, say something. Without proof, a good witness is not a
murderer. She is about to leave, but you tell her to wait. Hoshikage says
if you don't have the evidence, you could be hit with the worst punishment.
You couldn't wear that lawyer's badge ever again. The judge asks if you can
provide the conclusive evidence to prove Chinami did the crime. You can't
miss here.
If you were to run, you would rather throw away that lawyer's badge. Chinami
calls you a stupid girl. The judge will allow one piece of evidence, and one
only. Chinami will humbly watch as the flowers won't bloom, but scatter away
beautifully. You know the poison must be these... Show the judge the
evidence marked Kazegoroshi Z. The medicine of Naruhodou. You say if you
caught a cold, you would never take this medicine, since it is poisoned.
Remember the defendant's testimony? The one where he said the bottle was
missing since lunch. He always ate lunch with Chinami. She stole the
medicine bottle, put poison in it, and waited for Naruhodou to take it.
Auchi objects, and says the victim, Kikuzou, held that bottle. You say
remember the case from a half year ago? Where did Chinami hide that
evidence? Inside the pendant. Chinami gave that present to someone. It
happened to be someone in the reference room, Ryuuichi Naruhodou. This time
it is the same concept. After pushing the victim, Naruhodou left the scene.
Chinami appeared. She held the poison filled Kazegoroshi Z bottle. It was
to be used to poison the defendant. She saw what happened and heard the
quarrel between the defendant and victim. The broken power line. Leaving
Nonda alive would be dangerous to her. Chinami used the power line to cover
up the mouth of Kikuzou.
Something happened that made things more difficult. Ryuuichi Naruhodou
returned to the scene unexpectedly. The machines for the experiments stopped,
and students started appearing at the scene. Chinami was sweating, since she
held the poisonous bottle. If the police searched her body, it would be the
same situation as a half year ago. She disposed the poison the same way as
before... By pushing it on someone else, this time in the hands of Kikuzou
Nonda! Silence in the room. Chinami says that is all the delusions of an
idiot. You ask if Chinami will drink this bottle. Naruhodou ate the pendant.
If she's lucky, she could be saved. If Chinami is innocent, prove it by
drinking this medicine! Chinami grows mean and repeats the name, Chihiro
Ayasato, Chihiro Ayasato. It is not over yet. For today she'll give you a
flower.
It won't end like this. We will meet again. Farewell. It's over. Auchi
still can't believe it. The judge says, the witness admitted to it. You ask
if Auchi would take the medicine. He did say he trusted Chinami. It should
be alright. How much do you really trust that witness? Auchi pauses, then
loses all his hair due to shock. As for Chinami, she has been arrested. The
judge asks, how you know Chinami? You say it has no relation to the current
case. The judge hands out the verdict for Ryuuichi Naruhodou. Not Guilty.
Case closed. Same day, 3:16 PM, Waiting Room # 3. Hoshikage congratulates
you. It got him thinking about the true meaning of trust. Maybe even the
veteran can lose sight of such things.
Naruhodou wonders if that really was Chinami today. The Chii-chan he knew
wouldn't talk like she did today. You say it would be best to forget about
her. That and calm down a bit. Naruhodou says he is studying to become a
lawyer. You are puzzled, since he is an art student. Yes, but there is a
friend he wants to save. If he hurries, he might make it in time. Can it be
done? You say you are still a beginner yourself, but you believe he can do
it. Naruhodou promises he will become a lawyer. We may meet again. After
that "Not Guilty" verdict, 5 years passed. Naruhodou became a lawyer, and
saved his friend (Mitsurugi). Chihiro is no longer in this world. Naruhodou
talks about how this case was a powerful reminder for him. At the same time,
an important memory.
He never thought he would look back at this particular memory. Chihiro is
not present, but she will talk to him time to time. 5 years after that case,
he will bite her words once again. Just a little more ahead. End of

Episode 2 - The Stolen Reversal. Day 1 Detective Phase. A reminder at 1:00
AM. Ping. Someone is talking to a detective. Time of the advanced notice
has passed. It seems like the Jewel is safe. Looks like we scared them
off. By the tone of voice, it looks like Detective Keisuke Itonokogiri.
Just to be sure, let's check the safe. After opening the safe, the detective
is shocked to find a card in place of the supposed jewel. It reads, "The
appearance of the Mystery Person". The detective orders an immediate search
of the area. A mysterious caped figure laughs and flies off into the night.
"We'll meet again at the next full moon!".
September 11, 3:24 PM, at the Law Office of Naruhodou. Back in the present
time, you now play the role of Ryuuichi Naruhodou. Mayoi tells you to
listen to something. You can clean the bathroom later. Mayoi says only
today you can talk like that. We will become big. Hami-chan and I. Harumi
Ayasato is here for something special. She shows you a poster. It is an
exhibit of the secret treasures. One of the items on display is the Kurain
Village Treasure, the Pot with the letters for "Children". Mayoi says they
can go tonight. The exhibit begins next week, but the sponsors got a special
pass for a sneak preview. You think to yourself, this is Mayoi Ayasato, the
younger sister of Chihiro Ayasato, your mentor.
You know Mayoi from two years back, the time Chihiro was killed. Now Mayoi is
the assistant leader of this office. She is training to be a first rate
Spiritual Mediator. The other girl is Harumi Ayasato, the cousin of Mayoi.
Harumi's spiritual power rival that of Mayoi. Both of their homeland is the
Village of Kurain. It is the main headquarters of the Kurain Style of
Spirit Mediation. Mayoi is the daughter of the head of the family. It seems
like a joke, but it is for real. Many times this spiritual power caused
unbelievable things to happen. Mayoi tells you to snap out of it and get
ready. Harumi is excited about the exhibit. You take the poster as evidence.
7:18 PM, Takabishiya, Exhibition Hall. The Takabishiya Department Store, the
town's finest shop. Mayoi is stunned by the view. Even junk looks like
treasure here. Mayoi says the person in charge of the exhibition is waiting
in the underground warehouse area. Let's pay a visit. Over there, a voice
greets you. Mayoi thinks it is a ghost, but it is someone who looks familiar.
The person recognizes you and Harumi. Her name is Kirio Kamiya. She is the
manager of this secret treasure exhibit. That and the overseer of security.
It seems Kirio's demeanor has changed since the last time you saw her. Kirio
says the valuables are still stored here. Talk to her to find out more.
Kirio says it's been a while. Mayoi has no clue what you are talking about.
(Mayoi was kidnapped in episode 2-4, that's the time you first met Kirio.)
That was a half year ago. Mayoi doesn't seem to remember. Kirio doesn't
seem to mind. Thanks to you, she changed and she is happy now. As for the
department store, it is nearing its 200th anniversary. The objects on
display are all of the highest quality. Mayoi is excited as is Harumi.
The security seem exaggerated. Show Kirio the Exhibit Poster. This will help
make the Kurain Village famous. Search the room to find a camera on the wall.
Kirio explains that every time someone enters or exits the room, a picture is
taken.
In the room on the right side, there is a statue. It is a statue of Kyouko,
the founder of the Kurain Style of Spiritual Mediation. Kirio borrowed this
gold statue from a member of the branch family. It just came in today.
Take this as evidence, then you notice it has something in its hand. Mayoi
doesn't know what it is. Kirio says it is the Kurain's "Shichishitou", a
blade that is used in ceremonies. It is not a weapon, so the blade isn't
sharp at all. Mayoi is disappointed, since she wanted to cut something with
it. Why is she looking at me when she says that? Kirio notices it is past
8 PM. How about dinner? She put in a reservation at the restaurant located
in the 12th floor. Let's go together. You think to yourself, now it is just
a matter of waiting until opening day. No one could imagine what would
happen in the coming days.
September 12, 10:04 AM, Naruhodou's Office. Mayoi warns you something
terrible has happened. Harumi switches on the T.V. The announcer talks about
their continuing coverage of a theft. The police say the criminal is the
Mystery Person, Kamen Mask. The Takabishiya Department Store had been
receiving advanced notice for the past ten days. This mystery person aims for
secret treasures, and this will be the fifth one hit so far. You recognize
the store as the one you went to yesterday. Mayoi's treasure has been stolen,
the Pot of Kurain. Talk to Mayoi. She says the Kurain Pot is the Kurain
Village's biggest treasure. It is on the poster, if you care to look. Inside
the pot, a spirit is sealed inside. It is the spirit of Kyouko, right
Harumi?
Harumi stutters then agrees. Mayoi thinks it is strange. Kyouko's name
should be written on that pot. When asked about it, Harumi stutters again.
You do know the story behind that. About a year ago, in Mayoi's hometown,
a murder case happened. That pot played a part in it. Take the pot as
evidence, then ask for Mayoi's input. Before you head off to the crime scene,
talk about that case from a year ago. Mayoi got arrested after her spiritual
mediation ceremony. The victim was murdered during that time. This pot
helped prove Mayoi's innocence. Harumi says don't tell Mayoi about how she
broke the pot during that time. It's a miracle nobody's done the math for
the past year.
Head off to the crime scene, the Exhibit Show. The exhibit hall looks
undisturbed, but someone tells you not to go in here. The voice is Detective
Keisuke Itonokogiri. Itonoko for short. He wonders why every time a case
comes up, you are always there. You wonder the same thing for him. Is there
no other detective? You argue a bit, then Mayoi breaks it up. Talk to
Itonoko about the case at hand. The object that was stolen was the Pot of
Kurain. The criminal is the Kamen Mask. Harumi already knows this. Mayoi
says, tell us something we don't know. Itonoko thinks a bit, then says the
crime occurred last night at around 1:30 AM. He received an emergency call
from the security guard on duty that night.
The place of the theft was not here, but in the underground warehouse. That's
where the pot was stored. Itonoko is mad, since the guard did let the mystery
person escape. This "guard" calls himself a great detective. You then ask
about the Kamen Mask. Is this person popular? Mayoi is shocked you don't
know about Kamen Mask. The mask could be anyone. The target is mainly
expensive art objects. Counting yesterday, this is the fifth time the Kamen
Mask has struck. Itonoko thought with the store's help, he could catch the
thief this time. He knows the pot was the target, since the thief left an
advanced notice letter. About the Master Detective, Itonoko says Kamen Mask
has struck five times. That detective managed to recover a stolen object on
the fourth time the thief struck.
The strange thing is, Itonoko's crew waited at the intended target, but he's
never actually seen this so called great detective. Harumi wonders how the
detective got the stolen goods back. Right now, this detective is skulking
around the crime scene. As for the letter, Itonoko warns you not to show this
to anyone. This letter has a mark, the Kamen Mask Emblem. It is printed on
every card the Kamen Mask sends out. This is secret information. A real
Kamen Mask note always has this symbol. Take this note as evidence, then go
to the crime scene, which is the Warehouse Area. You notice the place looks a
little different from the last time you were here. A voice welcomes you to
his "Banquet of Chaos".
A man with a magnifying glass as an eyepiece appears. He is dressed in a bow
tie and wears a shiny red ring. He seem to know what you are. It doesn't
matter how he knows. We are the travelers in the flow of time, like a
transient dream. He says the firm condition of a gentleman is to give the
name to the rival. His name is Aiga Hoshiidake, the master detective. You
introduce yourself as the lawyer Ryuuichi Naruhodou. Mayoi and Harumi do the
same. Aiga says the game has begun. Ask him about the role of the great
detective. He is surprised you still don't know the name Aiga and Kamen Mask.
They are the town's two biggest rivals. Aiga says he began his own
investigation since the second time the Kamen Mask struck.
At the last hit, Aiga struck glory. The Mask's trophy, was the "Lady Magina
Statue". Aiga managed to recover it from the crime scene, all by himself.
Mayoi heard about that on the news. He got a reward, a wonderful jewel from
the art museum. Aiga admits it is not as good as the recovered item. As for
this mystery person, Aiga claims that his rival spread the decisive fireworks
of battle last night. Then Aiga was here last night? Yes. Aiga is there
wherever the Kamen Mask is. You want more detail about last night. Aiga says
that he received a request to guard the store about 20 days ago. The Mystery
Person's advanced notice came in about 10 days ago. Mayoi is shocked the
request came before the letter.
The requester was cautious. It was Kirio. Ten days after beginning his guard
duties, Kirio had a bad feeling. The note arrived, telling what will happen
soon. Aiga set a trap in this warehouse, then waited alone for the mystery
person to show up. Mayoi wonders why he didn't call the police. Aiga says
they can't do anything about it. Aiga hid in a place where no one could see
him. Even that detective that's hanging around doesn't know about it. Aiga
says, "To deceive thy enemy is but a friend". Aiga waited here last night.
He claims no one passed through the door you see over there. Even so, the
Kurain Pot still disappeared. How? If he knew, they wouldn't be here, now
would we?
It is now time to search the crime scene. On the floor, you find an open box.
It is stained in pink paint. However, Aiga won't let you search the area
unless you show some proof of something he doesn't know. Show him the Advance
Notice of Kamen Mask. The emblem printed on this letter gets his attention.
He realizes you looking for this mystery person too. Mayoi wants the pot
back. He understands, then leaves. If you find anything interesting, visit
his office. Now search the floor to find that box you were looking at. This
box carried the Kurain Pot. Beside the box is the Shichishitou blade, but it
looks bent. Harumi mentions that yesterday, the Kyouko Statue held that
blade. It could have been used last night.
Mayoi says it could have been Aiga who whacked the intruder like this. Take
this as evidence. Search the computer to get a printout of the camera data.
It looks like the camera took one picture last night. This is good evidence.
On the right side of the room, you notice the gold statue has moved. Search
it and revise your evidence file with the new information on this object. On
the spot where the statue used to sit, there is a pink stain of paint. Upon
closer inspection, you see a square corner that is void of paint. Harumi
notices the paint is already dry, like it had been here for several days. As
you wrap up your investigation, return to the Exhibition Hall. Your cell
phone rings. Detective Itonoko is calling to tell you he beat that other
detective.
Itonoko caught the elusive Kamen Mask. Well, more precisely, he gave himself
up. As for the Pot of Kurain, Itonoko says come on down to the Detention
Cell. Kamen Mask wants to talk to you. Return to your office in order to
make your way to the Detention Cell. Itonoko welcomes you, but Mayoi seems
more interested in the pot. Itonoko says you are the victim. Ask the person
himself. Usually it is a murder case with a dead body, but this time it's
different. Someone is trying to get your attention, but Mayoi is not
listening. You see a guy in a flashy outfit. He claims to be the Kamen
Mask. His name is Yuusaku Amasugi. About the Kamen Mask, even he is not
sure. You wonder why he turned himself in. Mayoi thinks the reason is he
couldn't bear the burden of stealing an important treasure.
Amasugi has a plea. Would you meet my Mareka-chan? Before that, Mayoi wants
the pot back. He will, but then he changes his mind. He admits to losing
that pot. Amasugi says the reason you're here is because Mareka said so. He
wants you to go to his hideout to meet with his wife. He gives you the
location. Inside the hideout, you find the costume of Kamen Mask among other
things. You meet Mareka Amasugi. She knows who you are. She saw Mayoi on
T.V. once. It said, Mayoi was a lawyer's assistant and was doing some strange
training. Yuusaku usually gets the wrong impression. She doesn't know why he
confessed. Why would he steal the pot? It seems Mareka doesn't know who
Yuusaku is.
As for Mareka, she lives on thrill. She likes riding motorcycles at full
throttle. Running at the brink of death is more fun than the boredom of
ordinary life. Yuusaku is not so thrilled about that, however. Yuusaku is
mysteriously wealthy for a guardsman. Ask about the night of the crime and
she says, with the help of Mayoi, the crime happened about 1:30 AM.
Mareka says she got caught speeding last night. She returned home at around
3:00 AM. Yuusaku's alibi that night is unknown. Show her the profile of
Kamen Mask. She knows who Yuusaku is. He's a big fan of the Kamen Mask.
The problem is, Yuusaku thinks he is the Kamen Mask. The articles in this
room seems to fit, but Mareka says the real Kamen Mask wouldn't live in a
place like this.
Yuusaku is fond of heroes, after all. If he did steal it, the pot should be
here. Maybe you should ask him. Mareka believes someone placed a trap on
Yuusaku. She gives you a letter for you to give to Yuusaku. Return to the
Detention Cell and show Yuusaku the Letter of Mareka. After reading the
letter, he says the letter asks of you to be his lawyer. The trial is
tomorrow. Mayoi objects, since she is the victim. According to Mareka
though, Yuusaku isn't the Kamen Mask. Mayoi says that could be a lie.
Yuusaku promises a treasure out of his collection if you do accept the offer.
You decide to become his lawyer. Mayoi and Harumi are shocked. Harumi runs
off, and Mayoi follows. Mayoi returns and says Harumi will be at our
office. Yuusaku leaves to be questioned by the police.
When you return home to your office, Harumi greets you. She is still mad you
are defending Mayoi's enemy. Talk to Mayoi to find out more about Harumi.
The first time you met Harumi was about a year ago, in Mayoi's hometown.
Harumi seems to have a small misunderstanding about you and Mayoi. Mayoi says
it's a custom in the Kurain Village. Harumi seems to care about Mayoi. She's
