So, you've started reading this wondering what this guide is about. Well,
first of all, if you're looking for strategies on how to deal with the bosses
found deep within these extra dungeons, you've come to the wrong place.
There's plenty of other guides based solely around that sort of thing.

No, the purpose of this guide is something else completely. It's to explain
how the Soul of Chaos dungeons work. Particularly, their layout, their
secrets... and more importantly... the unique items they can give up, with
just a bit of coaxing.

Sure, you can get some nice items simply by getting to the end of the
dungeons and beating up whatever stands in your path. But there's more to
the Soul of Chaos than that. And this guide will attempt to explain not
only why things work the way they do in there... but how you can turn it to
your advantage.

So. Without further preamble... let's get going!

                ===============================================

Scattered around the world are four dungeons, each aligned with a particular
element: Earthgift Shrine, Hellfire Chasm, Lifespring Grotto and Whisperwind
Cove. They have been long sealed for years... until now.

These Soul of Chaos dungeons are optional extras that have been added to
Dawn of Souls. Although it is not necessary to even enter them, the rewards
for doing so are great - unique and powerful items await the persistent
explorer.

However, these dungeons follow their own rules, and their layout changes
each time you enter. This changing layout is pivotal to what items you
earn... so let's look at that in detail for a bit.

When you enter a Soul of Chaos, the dungeon is somewhat randomised. One of
128 configurations is picked for the various floors, and which chests are
available on each floor is also chosen at this time.

Each floor has a certain number of chests, which can range anywhere from 0
to 10, depending on the floor. However, depending on the dungeon and the
depth of the floor, some of these chests may be randomly removed. In
addition, the treasures for a particular floor are set. An example: B1 of
Earthgift Shrine has the following treasures available: Hi-Potion, Spider's
Silk, White Curtain and Remedy. The important thing about this is that these
treasures are in *order*, and you will only get the later treasures if the
random map chosen has enough chests to start with.

Let's continue on this example. Ur Cave 1 has a max number of 2 chests - it
will never have more than this. As such, the only treasures you can ever
find in Ur Cave 1 if it appears on B1 is a Hi-Potion and Spider's Silk.
Endless Desert, on the other hand, has a max number of 4 chests... which
means that all four items can be found if this map appears on B1.

It gets more complicated though. As stated, some of these chests may be
randomly removed from the map. At certain depths, the same level may have
a restriction on how many of the chests it has may be available. Endless
Desert has a maximum of 2 chests when it appears on B1 of Earthgift Shrine.
So, if Endless Desert appeared on B1, you might only see the 1st and 4th
chest, or maybe the 2nd and 3rd chest, or any combination of two chests. You
can still get the 'rarer' items for a floor if their chest is randomly picked
(Remedy will always appear in Chest 4 of B1, for example)... but it's not
guaranteed.

What this means is that, as soon as you enter the Soul of Chaos, all the
items that are going to appear for you have already been decided. And in
certain cases, these items are guaranteed - both Lifespring Grotto and
Whisperwind Cove have a map that have all 10 chests available *guaranteed*.
In addition, because there are only 128 configurations, you can work out
where that level is after only seeing the first 4 or 5 levels. So if you got
a poor configuration, or are looking for a particular item, you could reset
early and try again.

The main purpose of this guide is to teach you about the various levels,
exactly how to identify them and which chests and treasures they may yield,
and then use this information in order to get the exact item you actually
want.

So, shall we go over an example of how to use this guide? Very well. Let's
start with something easy... how about Genji Armor? It's a 2% drop from
Death Machine, found as a rare encounter on Flying Fortress 5F. But that's
a pain in the neck to get. So let's try and get it out of the SoC dungeons,
shall we?

If you do a search for Genji Armor in this document, you will find it listed
as the 10th item for B25 of Whisperwind Cove. Now, if this had been a less
rare item, we may have had multiple floors to choose from, or it may have
been a lower number item. Unfortunately, it's very rare, and because it's
the 10th item, only the Undead Castle in Whisperwind Cove can give it to us.
So, we have to make sure that the Undead Castle is created on B25.

At the bottom of this document are various tables. The one most useful to
us is the Whisperwind Cove Configurations table, sorted by Undead Castle.
We want all the configurations where Undead Castle is on B25. And after
looking them up, we get the following possibilities:

  #1.   9, 21,  4, 22
  #2.  26, 29, 34, 27

If we look up these figures, we can translate them into meaningful names.
9, for example, refers to Mysidia, the town of mages. So, the two
combinations become:

  #1. Mysidia, Waterfall Rooms, Lava Sea, U-Cave
  #2. Earth Tunnels, Rooms of Ice, Corridor of Rooms, Beaver Cave

So, if we want Genji Armor, the first four floors must follow one of those
patterns. Of course, the names by themselves can sometimes be confusing...
what does Earth Tunnels really mean? Or Waterfall Rooms? That's where the
description section for each floor comes in: if you search for Waterfall
Rooms, for example, you'll find the details given about it, that describes
it as one of the only two Waterfall Cave-type maps in Whisperwind Cove, where
the main identifying feature is that *this* map has doors leading to seperate
rooms.

Of course, if much of that is a bit too much, there is a list at the end of
this document containing some of the rarer items that will give the needed
configurations and locations to hunt them down. You may use this if you
like and ignore the main tables. However, you may find that you still have
to look up the details on the map names to identify them - I apologise for
this, but there is no way to easily identify some of the maps without detail.

In any case, let's begin with a detailed look at each Soul of Chaos dungeon
in turn, starting with the first: Earthgift Shrine.

                 =============================================
                 ====   E A R T H G I F T   S H R I N E   ====
                 =============================================

Earthgift Shrine is the first of the Soul of Chaos dungeons, and is unlocked
after you defeat Lich in the Earth Cave. It has 5 floors, where the
guardians of FF3's Dark World lie in wait: Ahriman, Echidna, 2-Headed Dragon
and Cerberus - all of which are on the 5th and final floor. You can only
fight one of them during each trip down, which means four trips in total
in order to fully clear out the dungeon. In addition, Ahriman guards a
unique treasure chest that contains a Megalixir.

There are only four random floors, and only four treasures per floor to get,
so earning items is fairly simple. However, apart from Black Cowl, Kenpogi
and Elven Cloak, the prizes aren't that brilliant. You'll likely be waiting
until Hellfire Chasm before you really start making use of the dungeons.

     B 1:                                 B 3:
      1. Hi-Potion                         1. Potion
      2. Spider's Silk                     2. Speed Drink
      3. White Curtain 3. Protect Drink
      4. Remedy                            4. Black Cowl

     B 2:                                 B 4:
      1. Vampire Fang 1. Red Fang
      2. Blue Curtain                      2. Ether
      3. White Fang 3. Silver Apple
      4. Kenpogi                           4. Elven Cloak

The available maps are as follows:
   1: Ur Cave 1                  2 Chests
   2: Ur Cave 2                  3 Chests
   3: Dark Forest                4 Chests
   4: Endless Desert             4 Chests

Ur Cave 1
=========
  Type:       Earth Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 1
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/2 Chests

  Very recognisable as the very first dungeon of the FF3... don't worry if
  you don't recognise it yourself - FF3 was never released in the US (the
  game that was released as FF3 was actually FF6... confusing, I know).

  In any case, it's a very *SMALL* dungeon, and is distinguishable from
  Ur Cave 2 because Ur Cave 2 has the twin dead ends off the southern
  chamber. You'll see what I mean. The exit itself is to the NE of the
  map.

  Chest 1: Southern chamber on left wall
  Chest 2: Southern chamber on right wall

Ur Cave 2
=========
  Type:       Earth Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 2
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/3 Chests
              B 3-B 4 - 3/3 Chests

  Another floor of the very first dungeon of FF3. This one is marked by the
  twin dead-ends you'll be able to see which frequently have chests at the
  end of them. Collect them all then head towards the exit to the NW.

  Chest 1: Left dead-end off southern chamber
  Chest 2: Right dead-end off southern chamber
  Chest 3: In northern T-junction

Dark Forest
===========
  Type:       Dark Forest
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 1
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/4 Chests
                B 3   - 3/4 Chests
                B 4   - 4/4 Chests

  A rather lengthy map compared to the Ur Caves. As well as containing
  random encounters, zombie soldiers will block your path. Talking to them
  initiates a random encounter that, when beaten, will remove the soldier.
  You don't have to fight all of them - just go after whichever chests you
  think might be there and then head for the exit, which is in the very
  center of the forest. To get to the exit, you will have to spiral round
  the forest anticlockwise to get to it.

  Chest 1: Far NW part of forest
  Chest 2: First junction to the left on eastern path, upper part of fork
  Chest 3: SE part of forest, due south of starting position
  Chest 4: NE part of forest, far north of eastern path

Desert
======
  Type:       Desert
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 20
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/4 Chests
                B 3   - 3/4 Chests
                B 4   - 4/4 Chests

  This final area can be very dangerous: you have a rare chance of meeting
  Abyss Worms who hit *VERY* hard. Otherwise, it's business as usual.
  However, this is indeed an endless desert - if you continue going in one
  direction, you'll end up back where you started. The trick is in the
  landmarks: groups of 3 trees form an arrow which will point you in the
  direction of either the next group of 3 trees or the oasis. The exit is
  next to the oasis itself.

  Chest 1: Center of 6 trees due north of oasis
  Chest 2: Head a little south of the oasis so that the exit is touching the
             north part of the screen, then head due east - Chest 2 is right
             next to the grassy area and clump of trees you come across
  Chest 3: Center of 3 trees due south of oasis
  Chest 4: Head a little south of Chest 3 so that the chest is touching the
             north part of the screen, then head due west - Chest 4 is south
             of the first single tree you come across

                   =========================================
                   ====   H E L L F I R E   C H A S M   ====
                   =========================================

Hellfire Chasm is Marilith's Soul of Chaos, and has 10 floors. You can meet
the four fiends of FF4 in this dungeon: Scarmiglione and Cagnazzo await on
B5, while Barbariccia and Rubicante are on B10. Rubicante guards a unique
chest that contains a Ribbon, the 4th in the game.

Each random level in Hellfire Chasm can have up to five treasures, meaning
it's a little more difficult to get the better items. But now the better
items are starting to appear, including the stat plus items, making this
quite a profitable run.

     B 1:                                 B 6:
      1. Cockatrice Claw 1. Red Curtain
      2. Remedy                            2. Blue Fang
      3. Hermes' Shoes 3. Strength Tonic
      4. Speed Plus 4. Luck Plus
      5. Stamina Plus                      5. Thief's Gloves

     B 2:                                 B 7:
      1. Echo Grass                        1. 150 Gil
      2. Hi-Potion                         2. Hi-Potion
      3. Blue Fang 3. Faerie Tonic
      4. X-Potion                          4. Hermes' Shoes
      5. Bard's Tunic                      5. Twist Headband

     B 3.                                 B 8:
      1. Phoenix Down 1. White Curtain
      2. Red Fang                          2. 250 Gil
      3. Stamina Plus 3. Blue Curtain
      4. Mind Plus 4. Power Plus
      5. Sage's Surplice                   5. Sage's Mitre

     B 4:                                 B 9:
      1. 700 Gil                           1. Emergency Exit
      2. Eye Drops                         2. Giant's Tonic
      3. Giant's Tonic                     3. Ether
      4. Turbo Ether 4. Soma Drop
      5. Silver Apple 5. War Hammer

The available maps are as follows:
   1: Trespassers                4 Chests
   2: Winding Path               3 Chests
   3: Scalding Bats              4 Chests
   4: Firewall Maze              5 Chests
   5: Rock Labyrinth             2 Chests
   6: Zigzag Lavaway             3 Chests
   7: Spiral Lavaway             4 Chests
   8: World Map                  5 Chests

Note that there are 3 variations of the World Map, each with a different
solution and chest/exit layout.

Trespassers
===========
  Type:       Waterfall Cave
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/4 Chests
              B 3-B 6 - 3/4 Chests
              B 7-B 9 - 4/4 Chests

  Filled with villagers who each patrol a single path that will inevitably
  block your way. Although there are no random encounters, there are areas
  where a battle is guaranteed - look for where the floor sparkles and avoid
  it if you wish to bypass a fight. The exit is to the far east, on the
  northern side.

  Chest 1: Far west of map
  Chest 2: Northern room in western part of map
  Chest 3: In niche a little to the south of Chest 2
  Chest 4: Far southeast of map, in room surrounded by corridors

Winding Path
============
  Type:       Waterfall Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/3 Chests
              B 3-B 9 - 3/3 Chests

  A simple winding path starting from a loop at the north that leads to the
  south, where the exit lies.

  Chest 1: Just north of the exit
  Chest 2: Northern loop, in a niche to the SW
  Chest 3: Halfway down the path, on the eastern side

Scalding Bats
=============
  Type:       Sunken Shrine with Lava
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 2
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/4 Chests
              B 3-B 6 - 3/4 Chests
              B 7-B 9 - 4/4 Chests

  Every few seconds, if you're outside the grey safe areas, you will take
  damage from the heat. This is nothing really to worry about though. The
  only other point of interest are the large amounts of bats that may block
  your way from time to time, but they move randomly. The chests are
  confined to two small rooms on the northwestern side of the map, while the
  exit is to the northeast... but you'll have to loop around to the south to
  get to it.

  Chest 1: Eastern room on northwestern side of the map, left chest
  Chest 2: Eastern room on northwestern side of the map, right chest
  Chest 3: Western room on northwestern side of the map, left chest
  Chest 4: Western room on northwestern side of the map, right chest

Firewall Maze
=============
  Type:       Volcano
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 1
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
                B 9   - 3/5 Chests

  One of the only two maps in Hellfire Chasm where you can get the 5th item
  for a particular floor. Unfortunately, it always has a low number of
  chests, so in general, the World Map floor is much more reliable. Similar
  to Mount Gulg B2, you begin on the eastern side of the map and must
  traverse a maze of blazing walls in order to get to the exit. And like
  Mount Gulg B2, all the chests are in little out-of-the-way niches that
  you'll want to investigate. The exit is at the end of the maze, through a
  door on the southern end.

  Chest 1: First major niche on western side, in a dead end
  Chest 2: First major niche on western side, NW of Chest 1, upper chest
  Chest 3: First major niche on western side, NW of Chest 1, lower chest
  Chest 4: Second major niche just north of exit, left chest
  Chest 5: Second major niche just north of exit, right chest

Rock Labyrinth
==============
  Type:       Volcano
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 5
  Chests:     B 1-B 9 - 2/2 Chests

  This nasty level is full of lava, but your way is frequently blocked by
  little rocky outcrops. In addition, there's only a couple of chests in
  here, so it's not a very rewarding map. The exit is in the middle left
  of the map, but you'll have to approach from the north to get to it.

  Chest 1: A little east of the center of the map, in a small niche to the
             north
  Chest 2: Northeast part of map, in a dead-end surrounded by rocks

Zigzag Lavaway
==============
  Type:       Volcano
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/3 Chests
                B 9   - 3/3 Chests

  A much easier level - you either start on the far west of the map or just
  north of the exit. There's only one path to take, and the exit is in a
  western niche off the dead center of the map. However, if you want the
  chests, you'll need to make your way to the room in the far northeastern
  part, where as many as three chests may be waiting.

  Chest 1: Northeastern room, directly north of third pillar
  Chest 2: Northeastern room, directly south of second pillar
  Chest 3: Northeastern room, directly north of fourth pillar

Spiral Lavaway
==============
  Type:       Volcano
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/4 Chests
                B 9   - 3/4 Chests

  Very similar to the Rock Labyrinth, except that it's slightly easier to
  navigate. The exit is to the west, but you need to loop round the outer
  walls clockwise to get to it.

  Chest 1: End of inner spiral in dead-end, directly east of exit
  Chest 2: Far east of map
  Chest 3: Just north of dead-end that leads to Chest 1
  Chest 4: Far west of map on northern side of spiral

World Map
=========
  Type:       World Map
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 1
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/5 Chests
              B 3-B 6 - 3/5 Chests
              B 7-B 8 - 4/5 Chests
                B 9   - 5/5 Chests

  A very interesting level, which can catch the unwary off-guard. There are
  three variations to this level, and each variation always has the
  following: a ship, a pirate named Thule, an oasis and the exit. You can
  sail in the ship as soon as you can find your way to it. The oasis, on
  the other hand, is the location of a buried airship that you can *ONLY* get
  if you talk to Thule beforehand. You must talk to Thule each time you do
  this level if you want the airship. On some variations, the airship is
  necessary to complete the level.

  The first variation is a large continent where you start in a forest in
  the northwest section of the map. The ship can be found a little to the
  south. Thule is on a peninsula on the southern part of the continent -
  however, he frequently walks near the edges and you can talk to him while
  you're on the ship. The oasis is on an island off the northern coast of
  the continent, but if you sail south from Thule, you'll reach it easily.
  Finally, the exit is to the east of the oasis, complete with a dock.

    Chest 1: Northeast island - crescent-shaped island due east of exit
    Chest 2: Southwest island - just west of dock in center of swampland
    Chest 3: Southwest island - in center of forest surrounded by mountains
               and water
    Chest 4: Southeast island - due east of Thule
    Chest 5: Main continent - in forest clearing just south of exit island

  The second variation is a massive maze-like continent, where you start
  right next to a river. The ship is a long trek to the southwestern part of
  the continent. Once found, you can sail round to an island directly to the
  southeast where Thule is waiting. The oasis in back on the continent on
  the far northeastern peninsula, but you can head south of Thule towards the
  waiting dock and then walk following the north coast until you reach the
  oasis. Finally, the exit is in the dead center of the map on an island
  cut off from the rest of the continent - the airship is essential to
  completing this variation.

    Chest 1: Continent - SE of where you start, on a tiny piece of swampland
               just southeast of the lake
    Chest 2: Continent - NE of where the ship was parked, in the center of
               a tiny piece of swampland northeast of a small desert
    Chest 3: Continent - Southern peninsula directly north of Thule
    Chest 4: Southern Island - On the island where Thule lives
    Chest 5: Continent - Far southeastern peninsula on a tiny piece of
               swampland, with a forest and mountain range to the north

  The final variation has you on a continent with hardly any land at all -
  it's mostly rivers and other waterways. You start on a stretch of
  swampland that leads to the southeast. Following it leads you to a river
  that you can take due south to reach the ship. Once on the ship, Thule
  is due north of the dock you see to the ship's left. Then, the oasis is
  southeast of the dock you saw to the ship's *right*, if you go under the
  bridge. And finally, the exit is due north of the oasis, but you don't
  need the airship to get there.

    Chest 1: Right next to Thule
    Chest 2: Just northeast off the river where the ship was docked
    Chest 3: Southwestern island, just between a tiny forest and a mountain
               range
    Chest 4: Northeast of exit, on strip of swampland that surrounds the
               mountain lake up there
    Chest 5: Due southeast of oasis, surrounded by mountains

Lifespring Grotto is the third Soul of Chaos, available after Kraken is
defeated. In terms of floor difficulty, it is definitely the 2nd hardest...
but in terms of bosses, it most certainly ranks as #1! While Gilgamesh (B5)
and Atomos (B10) aren't too difficult, Omega and Shinryu found on the final
floor (B20) put up the hardest fight in the game! However, Shinryu guards
a chest that contains a Hero's Shield, the best shield in the game.

A random level in Lifespring Grotto can now have the maximum of ten
treasures. Note that only one of the 17 maps has 10 chests - the rest max
out at 5. So on each run through Lifespring Grotto, you will only be able
to get treasures 6-10 on *one* floor (thankfully, this floor is guaranteed
to have 10 chests, so there's no danger of losing any). As such, I'll split
each list into their 1-5 treasures, and their 6-10 treasures for easier
reference.

Dancing Girls
=============
  Type:       Town
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnts: 1
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/4 Chests
              B 6-B12 - 3/4 Chests
              B13-B19 - 4/4 Chests

  A rather relaxing level, but don't expect to be able to get all the chests
  here - there are five rooms but you'll only visit three of them. The
  first room always has only two dancing lines, but the second room is either
  a single house with a *large* circle of dancers, or a room with three
  houses and a dancer circle around each. The third and final room is then
  either the wandering dancer room (no chests) or the walking course (1
  possible chest). The exit is always in this third room.

  Chest 1: Start Room - Go past the dancing line to the north
  Chest 2: Triple House Circle Room - Chest is in SE corner
  Chest 3: Single House Circle Room - Chest is in NE corner
  Chest 4: Walking Course - End of southern path

Sunken Shrine 4F
================
  Type:       Sunken Shrine
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 5
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/4 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/4 Chests
              B17-B19 - 4/4 Chests

  As advertised, this level looks remarkably similar to Sunken Shrine 4F.
  The walkways are well connected and have railings, and there's a lot of
  rooms to visit. However, there's only two rooms of importance to visit
  before you need to head to the exit, which is in the SE corner.

  Chest 1: Lone chest in center room
  Chest 2: NE room - northern chest
  Chest 3: NE room - western chest
  Chest 4: NE room - eastern chest

Sunken Shrine 5F
================
  Type:       Sunken Shrine
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/4 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/4 Chests
              B17-B19 - 4/4 Chests

  Now, this map is *VERY* similar to the mermaids home in the Sunken Shrine.
  Unfortunately, you now have random encounters to deal with. The exit is,
  amusingly enough, in the NW corner, as if you were going after the Rosetta
  Stone. The chests are all over the place, so exploration is crucial if you
  want everything.

  Chest 1: Far northeastern room
  Chest 2: Far southern room
  Chest 3: Far southwestern room
  Chest 4: Far southeastern room

Sunken Shrine Caves
===================
  Type:       Sunken Shrine
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B19 - 4/5 Chests

  This interesting level is a group of caves mixed in with the Sunken Shrine
  style. It's also a fairly small map which spirals from a peninsula to the
  north anticlockwise to a small chamber in the NE corner where the exit
  lies.

  Chest 1: Southern room - western chest
  Chest 2: Southern room - northern chest
  Chest 3: Northern peninsula - western chest
  Chest 4: Northern peninsula - eastern chest
  Chest 5: Western cave, on southern side

Library
=======
  Type:       Library
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnts: 1
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/3 Chests
              B 6-B19 - 3/3 Chests

  Another nice relaxing area, and the scholars only get in your way
  semi-rarely. The corridors are narrow, but there are usually multiple
  ways to get where you're going. The exit is in the NE corner.

  Chest 1: Dead-end in eastern center of the library
  Chest 2: Southwestern corner of the library
  Chest 3: Visible on start screen, due north of start position

Open Area Tower
===============
  Type:       Mirage Tower
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 2
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/4 Chests
              B 6-B12 - 3/4 Chests
              B13-B19 - 4/4 Chests

  This Mirage Tower-type area is distinguished by a large open area in the
  western part, which leads off into multiple 'alleyways' to the east.
  Fairly simple to navigate, and the exit is in the southeastern dead-end.

  Chest 1: NE part of map, in room after northern alleyway
  Chest 2: Far southwestern corner of open chamber
  Chest 3: NW part of open chamber, surrounded by pillars
  Chest 4: NE part of open chamber, before northern alleyway

Room Maze Tower
===============
  Type:       Mirage Tower
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 2
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/4 Chests
              B 6-B12 - 3/4 Chests
              B13-B19 - 4/4 Chests

  Very similar to the Water level of the Chaos Shrine - the alleyways tend to
  be blocked off by pillars so the only way to progress is to cut through the
  rooms. The exit is in the southwestern corner, which basically means
  making your way to the central north-south corridor and entering the
  southwestern room to access it.

  Chest 1: North end of far SE room
  Chest 2: North end of far SW room
  Chest 3: South end of far NE room
  Chest 4: South end of far NW room

Pillar Maze Tower
=================
  Type:       Mirage Tower
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/5 Chests
              B 6-B12 - 3/5 Chests
              B13-B16 - 4/5 Chests
              B17-B19 - 5/5 Chests

  The main difference between this and Open Area Tower is the large number
  of pillars that conspire to obstruct your passage. The exit is in the NE
  corner, and you *must* approach it from the north in order to get to it.

  Chest 1: Far NW room - western chest
  Chest 2: Just east of pillar in center of NW crossroads
  Chest 3: Center of SE crossroads
  Chest 4: Far NW room - eastern chest
  Chest 5: Far NE room, approach from south

Flooded Village

  Type:       Flooded Village
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnts: 6
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 3/4 Chests
              B 6-B19 - 4/4 Chests

  Enjoy your trip via canoe. This flooded village has no encounters, and
  usually a fair number of chests. The exit is randomly picked from the
  houses above water - you'll have to check each of them to find it.

  Chest 1: Far SW section of map
  Chest 2: Far NE section of map
  Chest 3: Western section - in NE corner, approach this section from north
  Chest 4: Southern section, approach from south

Pillar Maze Cave
================
  Type:       Marsh Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 3/5 Chests
              B 6-B12 - 4/5 Chests
              B13-B19 - 5/5 Chests

  And *this* map reminds me of B2 South in the Marsh Cave. Pillars dictate
  where you can go in the northern section of this area, so you'll have to
  go anticlockwise around the northern end and hug the wall to reach the
  south. Then, you can use the rooms to cut through towards the exit in the
  SE corner.

  Chest 1: West end of SW room - northern chest
  Chest 2: West end of SW room - southern chest
  Chest 3: SE part of northern Pillar Maze, approach from north
  Chest 4: SE corner of map, before final room leading to exit
  Chest 5: Middle NW corner of map

Winding Sunken Shrine
=====================
  Type:       Sunken Shrine
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B19 - 4/5 Chests

  Another Sunken Shrine level... it gets harder and harder to distinguish
  between them. This one we recognise by the lack of railings, the fair
  number of rooms dotted around and the large amounts of open water seen
  around the place. In addition, the path is kinda linear, so there are
  very few routes to take. The exit is in the SE corner, but you'll have to
  approach it from the SW.

  Chest 1: Far NW peninsula
  Chest 2: Far W room
  Chest 3: Far E room
  Chest 4: SE room, right before exit
  Chest 5: Just northeast of far E room

Dark Bahamut's Challenge
========================
  Type:       Dragon Cave
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnts: 1
  Chests:     B 1-B19 - 0/0 Chests

  No chests, no encounters. So what's the point? Dark Bahamut wants to
  test you. Talk to him and he'll summon his servants (all dragons) who
  will wander around. He'll also give you a list of dragons that you must
  kill in order to proceed. Kill the dragons he lists - you'll have to talk
  to the wandering dragons to enter in battle with them, and you won't know
  what type of dragon they are until the battle starts. As such, you're
  likely to kill a lot more than Dark Bahamut asked you to. No problem, it's
  all extra items and EXP. Once you've met the target, you can talk to Dark
  Bahamut again to unlock the door to the south that leads to the exit. If
  you do this, you cannot fight any of the other dragons still on this level,
  though they will give you a few extra comments when you talk to them.

Ice Cavern
==========
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/3 Chests
              B 3-B19 - 3/3 Chests

  The only Ice Cavern level in Lifespring Grotto, thankfully. You'll see
  many more of these in Whisperwind Cove though, so this is a sneak peak,
  in a way. Sadly, it's a little difficult to navigate. However, there's
  a corridor that heads north-south down the center of the map, and you can
  use that to get to both the exit and all the chests on this level. The
  exit itself is a little NE of center and is easily visible.

  Chest 1: Far SW room
  Chest 2: Far NW room
  Chest 3: In dead-end just to the north of far SW room

Remote Sunken Shrine
====================
  Type:       Sunken Shrine
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 2
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/3 Chests
              B 9-B19 - 3/3 Chests

  Only two more Sunken Shrine maps to go! This one is kinda similar to
  Sunken Shrine Caves, only we have a far different layout - the cave walls
  only really border the map and don't block passage and there's far more
  open water. The exit is in the NW corner of the map.

  Chest 1: Far SE room, approach from southwest
  Chest 2: Far SW room
  Chest 3: Just west of far SE room, approach from southeast to northeast

Flying Fortress
===============
  Type:       Flying Fortress
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnts: 3
  Chests:     B 1-B19 - 3/3 Chests

  Again, this will be a common sight in Whisperwind Cove, so here's your
  sneak peek. A fairly annoying level, but with a relatively easy to learn
  layout - once again, there is a north-south corridor going down the center
  of the map. The exit is off a side-passage that heads off to the east
  from the southern end of the corridor.

  Chest 1: Far E room, approach from south
  Chest 2: SW room, west-side of north-south corridor
  Chest 3: Dead-end to west of SW room

Sunken Shrine 2F
================
  Type:       Sunken Shrine
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  5
  Chests:     B 1-B19 - 3/3 Chests

  Final Sunken Shrine floor. Thank god. How do we recognise this one? The
  Sunken Shrine Wall borders it on most sides, making it look very similar
  to Sunken Shrine 2F. So lots of rooms, lots of thin broken walls. It's a
  little tricky to navigate though, and quite a large map. The exit is
  accessible from the very eastern edge of the map, on a little platform
  off to the west.

  Chest 1: Southern room - approach from southeast
  Chest 2: Just SE of northern room in dead-end, to west of cave wall
  Chest 3: Northern room - this room is recognisable by the line of four
             pillars just south of it

Shimmering Walkways
===================
  Type:       Sky Castle
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B19 - 10/10 Chests

  The final random level... and the *ONLY* one with 10 chests in Lifespring
  Grotto. These chests are also guaranteed, so there's no random factor
  here - you just have to get this level to be generated at the depth you
  want. There's also no random encounters, so you can explore to your
  heart's content! ...but therein lies the problem. Connecting the rooms
  of this Castle in the Air is a maze-like system of walkways that flash on
  and off. They're only visible when they flash on briefly - the rest of the
  time, you can't see them. If you walk off the edge of these walkways, you
  are teleported back to the start of this map. As such, moves should be
  made carefully. Once you learn the map, however, it's very easy to get
  all the chests you want and then go.

  Due to the complex nature of the chest locations, these will be described
  as starting from the central room and following paths until junctions are
  reached - at each junction, a direction will be given. The directions to
  the exit are the same as the directions to Chest 8, except instead of N, E,
  keep heading N. You can also get to it from Chest 9, by replacing the last
  W with E, N instead.

  Chest 1: Head S, S - chest is in room at end
  Chest 2: Head N, E, S, SE - chest is in southern room
  Chest 3: Head N, E, S, SE - chest is in northern room, left side
  Chest 4: Head N, E, S, SE - chest is in northern room, right side
  Chest 5: Head N, E, S, S, SW, N - this leads to normal floor
             Now head N, N, E, N - chest is in room at end
  Chest 6: Head N, E, S, S, SW, N - this leads to normal floor
             Now head N, N, E, E, S - chest is in room at end, left side
  Chest 7: Head N, E, S, S, SW, N - this leads to normal floor
             Now head N, N, E, E, S - chest is in room at end, right side
  Chest 8: Head N, E, S, S, SW, N - this leads to normal floor
             Now head N, E - chest is in room at end
  Chest 9: Head N, E, S, S, SW, E, E, NW, W - chest is in room at end
  Chest 10: Head S, N, N - chest is in far NW corner of map

                 =============================================
                 ====   W H I S P E R W I N D   C O V E   ====
                 =============================================

The final Soul of Chaos is opened by defeating Tiamat. The deepest of the
four, but also the most linear. Typhon stands guard on B10, Orthros on B20,
the Phantom Train stands ready on B30 and Death Gaze awaits all comers on
B40. There's no choice of bosses, just a steady descent towards the end.
However, defeating Death Gaze gives you access to the chest after him,
within which lies the Ultima Weapon.

Like Lifespring, Whisperwind has 10 treasures per level. The maximum that
most of the maps have is 6 chests though, so the final four treasures are
extremely rare. However, once again, there is a single map that has a
guaranteed 10 chests available - the location of this level will dictate
which rare items you walk away with. In addition, you will start
encountering stronger enemies once you descend past B30. This can be the
only way to meet certain enemies, so do be aware.

Note: Undead Castle, the only map in Whisperwind Cove that has 10 chests,
will never appear on B18 or B33. This means that items 7-10 for those floors
are impossible to get. Unfortunately, this impacts the rarity of the Angel's
Ring, which is only known to be found in the 10th Chest on B33 of Whisperwind
Cove.

Undead Castle
=============
  Type: River-filled Castle
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 10/10 Chests

  Once again: the only 10 Chest map in this dungeon. Keep an eye out for
  this map and clear it out when you get it. The exit is due south of where
  you start, but you'll want to visit the northern throne room and all four
  corners of the castle to get every chest. Talking to the soldiers will
  activate a battle with Revenants which, when won, will remove the soldier.
  Also, the King and Queen may be fought, generating a battle with a Pharoah
  and Devil Wizard respectively.

  Chest 1: Just to the west of starting position
  Chest 2: Just to the east of starting position
  Chest 3: SE corner of the castle
  Chest 4: SW corner of the castle
  Chest 5: Guarded by the King in the Throne Room
  Chest 6: Guarded by the Queen in the Throne Room
  Chest 7: NW Treasury - western chest
  Chest 8: NW Treasury - eastern chest
  Chest 9: NE Treasury - eastern chest
  Chest 10: NE Treasury - western chest

Rivertown
=========
  Type: Town
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 0/0 Chests

  Bearing a decent resemblence to Pravoka, this town has three points of
  interest: an Inn (1000 Gil per night), a Church and an Item Shop... which
  sells wonderful things. The items available for sale depends on the floor
  you're on:
   B 1-B 9: Duel Rapier, Gladius, Bard's Tunic, Hi-Potion, Protect Drink
   B11-B19: Viking Axe, Mage Masher, Sage's Surplice, Turbo Ether,
              Phoenix Down
   B21-B29: Kotetsu, Kenpogi, Zephyr Cape, Wizard's Hat, Remedy
   B31-B39: War Hammer, Ogrekiller, Sage's Mitre, Elven Cloak, Hermes Shoe

  Once you're done here, the exit for this level is located in the SE corner
  of the Inn.

Lost Souls
==========
  Type:       Forest
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  This small map is filled with wandering spirits, most of which will vanish
  when you talk to them. The exceptions are Astos and Vampire, who will
  battle with you instead. Getting all the spirits to vanish will cause the
  exit to appear on the southeastern island.

  Chest 1: Just NE of the old man
  Chest 2: Far SE corner

Lava Sea
========
  Type:       Volcano
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  Only some very *TINY* parts of this map are safe to walk on, so its just a
  case of deciding whether you want the chests or not then hiking it to the
  exit, which is on the safe ground to the north of the map (a little east
  of center).

  Chest 1: SW corner of the map, on safe ground
  Chest 2: SE corner of the map

Rocky Ice Cavern
================
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/3 Chests
              B 3-B 4 - 3/3 Chests
                B 5   - 0/3 Chests
              B 6-B26 - 3/3 Chests
              B27-B29 - 0/3 Chests
              B31-B39 - 3/3 Chests

  The first of many. This particular ice cave is shaped rather like a
  capital G, with the exit being on the SE side. Also note that this is one
  of many levels that have their chest count bugged - you will not find any
  chests on this floor if you are on B5, B27, B28 or B29.

  Chest 1: Northern room
  Chest 2: Just south of northern room
  Chest 3: Far NW corner of map

Ice Maze
========
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 - 2/4 Chests
              B 3-B 4 - 3/4 Chests
                B 5   - 0/4 Chests
                B 6   - 3/4 Chests
              B 7-B26 - 4/4 Chests
              B27-B29 - 0/4 Chests
              B31-B39 - 4/4 Chests

  A little less straightforward, but distinguished by multiple north-south
  corridors that allow access to most areas. The exit, this time, is to the
  far SE of the map. Again, note that no treasure chests will be found on
  this floor if you find it on B5, B27, B28 or B29.

  Chest 1: In NE room
  Chest 2: Southern edge of the map
  Chest 3: NE corner of the map
  Chest 4: NW corner of the map

Lavawhirl
=========
  Type:       Volcano
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/5 Chests
              B25-B39 - 5/5 Chests

  Fairly similar to Mount Gulg B1, the entire map looks like a swirl of lava,
  with a few safe spots. The exit is in the far southeastern corner. Simply
  collect the chests, and move on.

  Chest 1: Far NE corner
  Chest 2: Far NW corner
  Chest 3: E edge of inner swirl
  Chest 4: Far E edge of map
  Chest 5: SE corner of inner swirl

Labyrinth
=========
  Type:       Waterfall Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  2
  Chests:     B 1-B 2 -  2/6 Chests
              B 3-B 4 -  3/6 Chests
                B 5   -  0/6 Chests
                B 6   -  3/6 Chests
              B 7-B 8 -  4/6 Chests
                B 9   -  5/6 Chests
              B11-B12 -  2/6 Chests
              B13-B14 -  3/6 Chests
                B15   -  0/6 Chests
                B16   -  3/6 Chests
              B17-B18 -  4/6 Chests
              B19-B36 -  5/6 Chests
              B37-B39 -  0/6 Chests

  No landmarks, just tons of passages all connected with each other. This is
  not a nice area. The exit is in the NW corner, but it must be approached
  from the south. Again, note that this map is bugged, and that no chests
  will apear on floors B5, B15, B37, B38 or B39.

  Chest 1: NE corner, approach from west
  Chest 2: SE corner, corner of NW-SE passage and N-S passage
  Chest 3: SW corner, end of NE-SW passage
  Chest 4: NW part of map, a little SE of the exit
  Chest 5: S edge, end of N-S passage
  Chest 6: E edge, in dead-end, approach from NE corner

  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/5 Chests
              B25-B39 - 5/5 Chests

  This wonderful town has an Inn (1000 Gil, SE house), but that's not the
  best bit. The best bit is that, not only are all levels of Black Magic and
  White Magic available for sale here... but you can also buy weapons, armors
  and items from three of the Red Wizards!

  The items for sale are
    Weapons - Fast Green RMg:
                       Wizard's Staff, Thor's Hammer, Healing Staff,
                         Mage's Staff, Light Axe
    Armor   - Fast Green RMg:
                       White Robe, Black Robe, Protect Cloak,
                         Protect Ring, Gauntlets
    Items   - Fast Pink RMg:
                       Light Curtain, Red Curtain, White Curtain,
                         Blue Curtain, Lunar Curtain

  When you're done, the exit is the house in the northwestern corner.

  Chest 1: In dead-end leading east from NW corner
  Chest 2: Between trees in NE corner
  Chest 3: Far NW corner
  Chest 4: Far SE corner
  Chest 5: Directly above northeastern house

Dwarven Colony
==============
  Type:       Earth Cave
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  The dwarves here each have their own problems... can you help them out?
  Each dwarf is randomly assigned one of the various problems, and you've
  got to navigate the complex fetch quest to solve it. First, you need to
  find the dwarf who'll give you a Carobo. Then, the exchange of items goes
  like this: Carobo -> Ocarina -> Cogwheel -> Pickaxe -> Autograph ->
  Witch's Brew -> Smyth's Tools -> House Key -> Cat's Whisker -> Star Ruby.
  Once you have the Star Ruby, you can give it to the giant in order to pass
  to the next level. But don't forget the two chests found elsewhere on this
  map!

  Chest 1: Southwestern room
  Chest 2: Far southern room

  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/3 Chests
              B 9-B39 - 3/3 Chests

  A simple area, shaped rather like an H. You begin in the SE corner, and
  the exit is in the NW corner, and barring your way is lots of rocks.
  Making your way through the maze is all there is to it. Don't forget to
  stop by the northern room to pick up some more chests.

  Chest 1: Northern room - left chest
  Chest 2: Northern room - center chest
  Chest 3: Northern room - right chest

Cramped Cave
============
  Type:       Earth Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/4 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/4 Chests
              B17-B39 - 4/4 Chests

  A very small cave, but with plenty of chests to make up for it. The exit
  is in the northwestern corner, and doesn't take much work to get to.

  Chest 1: Western section - center of area, approach from south
  Chest 2: Far SW corner
  Chest 3: Eastern edge - southern dead-end
  Chest 4: Eastern edge - western dead-end

Earth Cave B3
=============
  Type:       Earth Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/5 Chests
              B25-B39 - 5/5 Chests

  Look familiar? The central room is almost *exactly* like the Vampire's
  lair in the Earth Cave. There are certainly major differences in the outer
  area, but that just makes it easier to traverse. The exit is to the far
  north of the map, and can be accessed either through the central room (as
  if you were going for the slab to Earth Cave B4) or around to the west
  which circles the central room towards the exit.

  Chest 1: Central room - middle chest
  Chest 2: Northeastern room
  Chest 3: Central room - left chest
  Chest 4: Central room - right chest
  Chest 5: Southern edge - eastern passage

Mined-out Cave
==============
  Type:       Earth Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/6 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/6 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/6 Chests
              B25-B32 - 5/6 Chests
              B33-B39 - 6/6 Chests

  This final cave brings to mind a group of seams which have been mined
  completely out, leaving a network of unconnected tendril-like passages.
  There's generally a good number of chests so it's worth exploring. The
  exit is in the far southeastern corner of the map, but do check the western
  section and the central room for chests.

  Chest 1: Central room - right chest
  Chest 2: Eastern section - southern seam
  Chest 3: Central room - middle chest
  Chest 4: Western section - middle seam
  Chest 5: Western section - far right seam
  Chest 6: Central room - left chest

Fairy Village
=============
  Type:       Forest Town
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  This annoying level is filled with fairies that will you can talk to if
  you like. Some will simply chat back. It's the others you must be wary
  of - good fairies may replenish either your HP or your MP... but bad
  fairies will either reduce your HP to 1 or your MP to 0. In general, none
  of the fairies are worth talking to, except for the lone patrolling fairy
  in the dead-end east of the lake. Talking to her will make the exit
  appear just to the east.

  Chest 1: SE part of village, at end of path
  Chest 2: NE corner of village

X-Pillar Fortress
=================
  Type:       Flying Fortress
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  4
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  The first of four Flying Fortress-type maps. You can tell this one by a
  group of 6 pillars arranged in an X just to the left of the central room.
  The exit is down to the southwest, and you'll have to loop around to the
  southern room to get to it.

  Chest 1: Southern room
  Chest 2: Central room

Network Fortress
================
  Type:       Flying Fortress
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/3 Chests
              B 9-B39 - 3/3 Chests

  This fortress is set out like a central area with three main paths leading
  away from it - one to the NW, one to the SW, and one to the east. The
  exit is all the way to the northeast, just north of the (empty) eastern
  room.

  Chest 1: Northwestern room
  Chest 2: Central room
  Chest 3: Southwestern room

Half-circle Fortress
====================
  Type:       Flying Fortress
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/4 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/4 Chests
              B17-B39 - 4/4 Chests

  The layout for this map is similar to a large C, with most of the treasure
  in the northeastern room, but the exit all the way down in the southeastern
  area. As such, look forward to long walks.

  Chest 1: SW room
  Chest 2: NE room - left chest
  Chest 3: NE room - middle chest
  Chest 4: NE room - right chest

Snake Fortress
==============
  Type:       Flying Fortress
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/5 Chests
              B25-B39 - 5/5 Chests

  The final fortress area has two main rooms, one to the north, the other
  to the south. Connecting them is an eastern passage that zigs and zags
  like a snake, hence the name. The exit is just southeast of the southern
  room.

  Chest 1: Northern room - left chest
  Chest 2: Northern room - right chest
  Chest 3: Southern room - upper chest
  Chest 4: Southern room - lower chest
  Chest 5: Southeastern dead-end

Mr. Roboto
==========
  Type:       Desert Town
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/6 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/6 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/6 Chests
              B25-B32 - 5/6 Chests
              B33-B39 - 6/6 Chests

  A fairly simple level. First, talk to the beige robot to get your quest:
  finding two spare parts from the masses of broken robots littering the
  place. The parts you find and where they're hidden is random, so the
  solution to that is up to you. Once you have both parts, talk to the
  robot again to reveal the exit.

  Chest 1: Nestled within NE wall
  Chest 2: Just below NW wall
  Chest 3: East of the robot companions, just under the sand river
  Chest 4: Just west of SW graveyard
  Chest 5: Just east of SW graveyard
  Chest 6: Next to SE wall

Waterfall Rooms
===============
  Type:       Waterfall Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/2 Chests
                B 5   - 0/2 Chests
              B 6-B24 - 2/2 Chests
                B25   - 0/2 Chests
              B26-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  Almost at a loss to describe this one... until I realised that it was the
  only other Waterfall Cave area in the dungeon and this one has rooms,
  while the other doesn't. The main corridor is a west-east one to the
  very north that links all the dead-end passages and the exit (which is
  on the very northern edge). Again, this is a bugged level, so don't
  expect chests if you're on B5 or B25.

  Chest 1: Eastern room - approach from eastern N-S passage
  Chest 2: Central room - approach from central N-S passage

U-Cave
======
  Type:       Dwarf Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/2 Chests
                B 5   - 0/2 Chests
              B 6-B24 - 2/2 Chests
                B25   - 0/2 Chests
              B26-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  The dusty floor means Dwarf Cave. Shaped vaguely like a U, it's fairly
  simple to get the two chests and the head for the exit in the NW section.
  Again, bugged area, so don't search for chests on B5 or B25.

  Chest 1: In eastern room
  Chest 2: Along western edge, in dead-end

Honeycomb Dwarf Caves
=====================
  Type:       Dwarf Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 2/3 Chests
                B 5   - 0/3 Chests
              B 6-B19 - 3/3 Chests
              B21-B24 - 2/3 Chests
                B25   - 0/3 Chests
              B26-B39 - 3/3 Chests

  The difference here between the other Dwarf Cave map? No rooms, more
  loops. Otherwise, it's another vague U-shape, though not quite as clear
  as the last map. The exit is due north of the western loop. And B5 and
  B25 show a suspicious lack of chests.

  Chest 1: Western section, southern side of west loop
  Chest 2: Far NW corner
  Chest 3: Eastern section, western side of east loop

Snaking Pillar Path
===================
  Type:       Marsh Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  2
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 3/4 Chests
                B 5   - 0/4 Chests
              B 6-B19 - 4/4 Chests
              B21-B24 - 3/4 Chests
                B25   - 0/4 Chests
              B26-B39 - 4/4 Chests

  The only correct route through here is a snaking path - all alternative
  routes are blocked off by pillars. This path starts in a large rectangular
  room to the far east, and ends at the exit to the NW. B5 and B25 are -
  again - without chests.

  Chest 1: Western chamber - SE edge surrounded by pillars
  Chest 2: Northern chamber - on eastern wall
  Chest 3: Eastern chamber - left chest
  Chest 4: Eastern chamber - right chest

Floating Continent
==================
  Type:       World Map
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/5 Chests
              B25-B39 - 5/5 Chests

  Okay, so it's not exactly like the Floating Continent from FF6... but it's
  a continent, and it *is* flying through the air, so I say... let's give
  them the reference. The exit is on the south edge of the map, but you'll
  need to go round anticlockwise and canoe through a purple river to reach
  it.

  Chest 1: South edge of map, due west of exit
  Chest 2: Far SW corner of map
  Chest 3: Far NW corner of map
  Chest 4: South peninsula off northern path
  Chest 5: NE side of desert just north of starting point

Earth Tunnels
=============
  Type:       Earth Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 4 - 3/6 Chests
                B 5   - 0/6 Chests
              B 6-B12 - 4/6 Chests
              B13-B19 - 5/6 Chests
              B21-B24 - 3/6 Chests
                B25   - 0/6 Chests
              B26-B32 - 4/6 Chests
              B33-B39 - 5/6 Chests

  Back to the Earth Cave tileset one last time. No real landmarks, just a
  mess of tunnels and a couple of nondescript rooms. The exit is in the
  NE corner, but again, you have to approach it from the west by making your
  way to the very north of the map first. And once again, no chests on B5
  or B25.

  Chest 1: Southeastern room
  Chest 2: Northern room - left chest
  Chest 3: Central area, in dead-end leading off to the southwest
  Chest 4: Northern room - right chest
  Chest 5: Far SE corner of map
  Chest 6: Southern chamber - western side

Beaver Cave
===========
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  Chit-chit-snook! A mass of beavers await you here! Immediately head
  north and talk to the old man who'll give you your task... direct a certain
  number of beavers into the left and right rooms. You do this simply by
  talking to a beaver and telling them which room they should go into. If
  you make a mistake, go to the beaver rooms and talk to a beaver there to
  send them out. Once you have the correct numbers in each room, talk to the
  old man again to reveal the exit.

  Chest 1: Southeastern corner of cave
  Chest 2: Southwestern corner of cave

Ice Spiral
==========
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 2/2 Chests

  Starting from the center, this ice cave spirals out in a clockwise
  direction ending in a dead-end to the northeast. The only points of
  interest is the room in the southeastern corner (contains two chests) and
  the exit on the northern outer edge.

  Chest 1: SE room - left chest
  Chest 2: SE room - right chest

Rooms of Ice
============
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/3 Chests
              B 9-B39 - 3/3 Chests

  The main landmark of this map is the two *LARGE* rooms you can enter. The
  northern room must be traversed to get to the exit, but if you head south
  instead, you'll reach the southern room that contains all the chests
  available on this map.

  Chest 1: Southern room - left chest
  Chest 2: Southern room - middle chest
  Chest 3: Southern room - right chest

Ice Loops
=========
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  2
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/4 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/4 Chests
              B17-B39 - 4/4 Chests

  It's enough to make you cry with this many ice caves. The main landmark
  for this one is the two loops you can walk around - one small one around
  the southeastern room (although you can't walk all the way around it),
  and one large one in the entire western section. The exit is tucked into
  the SE part of the western loop.

  Chest 1: SE room - left chest
  Chest 2: SE room - right chest
  Chest 3: SW room - left chest
  Chest 4: SW room - right chest

Ice Grid
========
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  2
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/5 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/5 Chests
              B25-B39 - 5/5 Chests

  A very large map with tons of different passages, with a somewhat grid-like
  feel to it all. Unfortunately, very few of these 'grid-blocks' can be
  fully walked around, so there's a slight maze aspect to it all too. The
  exit, however, is easy to get to and set in the western wall, slightly to
  the south.

  Chest 1: South edge of second northeastern grid-block, approach from
             central area from the southwest
  Chest 2: SW corner of map
  Chest 3: Far south edge of map
  Chest 4: NE corner of map
  Chest 5: SE corner of far eastern grid-block

Cavern of Spikes
================
  Type:       Ice Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  2
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 2/6 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 3/6 Chests
              B17-B24 - 4/6 Chests
              B25-B32 - 5/6 Chests
              B33-B39 - 6/6 Chests

  The dominating feature of this map is spikes, and lots of them. While not
  as dangerous as your average volcano level, it's still rather painful. The
  key area is the NW room which is basically 'chest central' - up to five
  of the possible six chests are located there. Once done, the exit is
  located in the southeastern chamber.

  Chest 1: Far SW room
  Chest 2: NW room - 5th chest
  Chest 3: NW room - 4th chest
  Chest 4: NW room - 3rd chest
  Chest 5: NW room - 2nd chest
  Chest 6: NW room - 1st chest

Winding Caves
=============
  Type:       Marsh Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 3/5 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 4/5 Chests
              B17-B39 - 5/5 Chests

  This simple cave network comprises of three paths - one leading north,
  one leading east, one leading west - all heading away from the exit.
  They're all short enough to follow reasonably quickly, so any direction
  will get you to the exit quickly enough. Once there, either follow the
  other paths for their chests or just leave this level.

  Chest 1: North end of northern path from exit
  Chest 2: End of eastern path from exit
  Chest 3: First corner along western path from exit
  Chest 4: SW corner of map
  Chest 5: End of western path from exit

Corridor of Rooms
=================
  Type:       Marsh Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  3
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 3/6 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 4/6 Chests
              B17-B24 - 5/6 Chests
              B25-B39 - 6/6 Chests

  A fairly quick and interesting map. A series of four rooms lie in a
  perfect line along a west-east corridor. Pillars make sure that you can't
  just simply walk to the exit (which lies to the far east) without a few
  detours, but it's nothing drastic. Each room can contain one or two
  chests, so depending on which floor you're on, they may be worth
  investigating. Otherwise, quite a simple level.

  Chest 1: 1st Room - left chest
  Chest 2: 1st Room - right chest
  Chest 3: 2nd Room
  Chest 4: 3rd Room
  Chest 5: 4th Room - left chest
  Chest 6: 4th Room - right chest

Marshy Loop
===========
  Type:       Marsh Cave
  Random Enc: Yes
  Start Pnt:  2
  Chests:     B 1-B 8 - 3/6 Chests
              B 9-B16 - 4/6 Chests
              B17-B24 - 5/6 Chests
              B25-B39 - 6/6 Chests

  Fairly similar to the Ice Loops level, except with more loops and in a
  Marsh Cave environment instead. There's loops around the two main rooms,
  and one big loop connecting them all. The chests are all fairly easy to
  get at, and the exit is just in the northwestern corner of the west loop.

  Chest 1: NE room - left chest
  Chest 2: NE room - right chest
  Chest 3: SW room - left chest
  Chest 4: SW room - right chest
  Chest 5: Western section, just east of exit along north wall
  Chest 6: Far NE corner

Hide'n'Seek
===========
  Type:       Town
  Random Enc: No
  Start Pnt:  1
  Chests:     B 1-B39 - 0/0 Chests

  The final map and... well, a little frustrating. No chests, no rewards,
  just a kid who wants you to locate a friend of his. With the exception
  of the church-like building you start in, all the other doors teleport you
  around the town, in a very arbitrary fashion. The kid you must find is
  random and only distinguished by the color of their hair, so it's just a
  case of running around until you find whoever it is that matches. Then,
  return to the 'church' and talk to the first kid, who'll reveal the exit
  for you. Waste of time with nothing to show for it, really.

      ===================================================================
In the following appendix, all possible configurations for the four Soul
of Chaos dungeons will be listed. Only the ID number of each map will be
used, since the name for each is both ambiguous and far too big to fit. Any
ID with a '!' mark after it is a map where it is possible to get the best
treasures available for that floor.

All the standard configuration tables are listed sorted by map ID. However,
Lifespring Grotto and Whisperwind Cove will each have an additional table
based around their single 10-chest map, to aid hunting for configurations
that place this map on a particular floor.

Also, for Earthgift and Hellfire, you may see a Chnc column next to some
configurations. Because these configurations appear multiple times, the Chnc
column dictates how much more likely than the usual 1/128 chance you have of
seeing that configuration. This is mostly for completeness however, since
you're unlikely to be too worried about how often certain configurations
appear in the first two dungeons.

  WHISPERWIND COVE CONFIGURATIONS (ordered by ID)
  ===============================
Unlike the previous tables, this table must be read downwards - it's simply
impossible to fit 36 floors on a single line and give a meaningful result.
Configurations will be divided into 8 groups of 16, ordered by ID.
