Mario Kart Super Circuit

Im on the ds with mario cart in the gba slot n i go to special cup with mario on the volcano stage (my games in chinese so i dont kno wats its called) were it shows wario getting hit by a rock.
So any way i start the race and get in 1st place, then i go up 2 were there is a spring railing. i dont want 2 lose my place in 1st, so i try braking but it doesnt work, then all of a sudden it froze with mario in midair with an entirely green screen. Im not sure but i think i was becuz im playing a chinese version on a american/canadian ds. any help here?
Um possible a faulty cartridge or that fact that your game isnt american
