Item Crush?

Is there anyway to drop subweapons so I can use the special item crush?

Sadly enough, there is no way you can drop a sub-weapon and be left with none.

The only way you can achieve the special item crush is if you progress through the game without picking up a single sub-weapon, and gain enough hearts to perform the special item crush. (Which requires 100 hearts to perform.) I would personally recommend waiting until you're able to play in Shooter mode, as Nathan gains an insane amount of hearts as he levels up. (And yes, it is very much possible to beat the game with no sub-weapon in this mode, including the Battle Arena if you're feeling up to the challenge.)

The item crush itself has Nathan summon a plethora of homing stars, and lasts for a significant amount of time. This is especially useful during boss battles.

Unfortunately not. Once you pick up an item you lose that ability for the rest of the game.
