Two options: if you're decently leveled and have good timing on Bros Attacks, use the hammer-based Bros Attacks on the little tree on his head. If you do it properly, you'll kill him quickly. If not, use your best attacks on his body until he splits. Then, keep an eye on which mini-Trunkle is carrying the orange, and target that one for attacks.
