Why does the game erase my data?

i have a japanese version of Megaman Battle Network 3. after about a year's worth of playing without any problems, my data was mysteriously erased for no reason. any attempts to save on the game fail.
ie. Select: New Game
(ingame) I save
After turning Gameboy Advance on then off,
file is gone and i have to select New Game.

(i never dropped my gba or abused it in anyway.)

Only some games have SRAM + Battery. See pics:

MMBN 3 was released in 2003, so it probably has FeRAM which doesn't require a battery.

However there are things called 'bootlegs'. Bootlegs are counterfeit carts and they usually use very unreliable SRAM+Battery. More info can be found here:

If you have a bootleg do yourself a favor and get rid of it. Then find a legit cart, bootlegs are nothing but trouble and always have problems.

Answer

Each cartridge has a battery life. You played the game too much and the internal battery ran out. Nothing you can do but buy a new game.

The battery may be very low and it will not save your data a bunch.

Answer

Save batteries in cartridges do die from either being used too much or very long periods of not being used.

However it is worth noting that pirated games tend to have extremely poor save batteries.

Answer

The battery can be subsituted, if you can open the cartridge and the battery is not soldered.

Cartridges Have A Save Battery. Your Copy Must Have Ran Out After Using It For So Long.
