Go! Go! Beckham! Adventure on Soccer Island
Review by calendron
"Beckhams shoots...and scores!!!"
Introduction:
Rage have paid a lot of money to get the Beckham' name on this game. It is pretty much a normal side-scrolling platform game but the weapon is a football.
Story:
The story is nothing new. There is a bad guy that has taken over soccer island' and you must defeat him to make the island safe again. To get to the final boss, Mr Woe, you have to get past four different zones called the fourth, third, second and first divisions.
Gameplay:
Right from the main menu this is a great, easy to control game. To start off, there is a trial mode to teach you the controls, however, they are so basic it's barely needed.
The game is divided up into four main zones, each consisting of around 9 levels. Each zone has a theme, none are very original, the creepy caves' for instance.
One of the best parts of the game is the uniqueness of using a football as a weapon instead of the normal fireballs, guns etc. This football is used to hit locks, then, after enough have been hit, the goal at the end of the level can be hit to move on. On the way through levels, the only aim isn't just to get to the finish though, there are items to collect along the way including coins and eggs dropped by enemies.
Throughout the levels there are different types of balls that do different things to enhance gameplay. This does make the game more interesting as you have to figure out which ball is best for which situation.
Graphics:
This game is aimed for young children so the levels are all in bright colours and the objects are all big and round. Even for older gamers they still look nice though.
Sound:
The worst part of this game is the sound, the back ground music barely changes throughout the game and the sound effects for hitting enemies are appalling. It gets very repetitive and you will probably turn it off within a few minutes.
Should you buy it?
It all depends how old you are. Over sixteen and I would say no but this is a great game for younger players, especially in the 7-12 age range.
Nothing in this game is original at all apart from the football weapon so unless you really like good music and originality in a game then this is a good choice.
Overall score 8/10
