"Keep Rolling In!!!"

When this game came out, I bought it a few days after it was released in the store. I read the box, and it said it had a new tilt sensor. I thought it would be enjoyable, so I purchased it, and played it the minute we got home. I eventually couldn't beat a certain level, and gave up on the game. After 3 months passed, I was looking for some old games to finish, and I stumbled upon this one. I have finally defeated the last boss, and have come to make a review of it. Here is what I think of the game.

Story - 8/10

The story of this game is pretty basic. In the beginning, Bowser is causing trouble, and a spirit punishes him by turning Yoshi's Island into a story book. The reason it was Yoshi's Island was simply because that was where Bowser was causing the trouble. Therefore, Yoshi goes on a dangerous journey to defeat Bowser, returning the island back to how it was. Though typical, the story is still well-thought, and deserves a decent score for that.

Game-play - 8/10

The game-play in this game is quite fun and simple. The tilt sensor is easy to use (when you get used to it), and every level has different objectives. The game also may give you multiple objectives, making the later stages more challenging. By earning enough silver and gold medal, you will be able to unlock several bonus levels. Trying to get all gold medals is a challenge, and with over 50 levels in this game, the re-playability value is pretty decent.

Graphics - 10/10

This game has some pretty good graphics, with a 3D look in every stage. The characters are also well animated. Yoshi can breath heavily when he takes too much damage, and act happy when his health is really high. The cherries and other items also move and shake in the right direction when you are using the tilt sensor. Each background also has a unique look, and are very colorful. The backgrounds are very colorful, and the obstacles you encounter in the various levels are also well colored. All in all, it's a very pretty game to look at.

Sounds - 8/10

The sounds in this game are good, with all the sounds and music going well with the levels. The music you make when you walk, or roll boulders, on the large xylophones just makes the game more fun. Yoshi also makes cute sounds when jumping, which I find interesting. The catchy tunes in each level are fun to listen to alone! There is good sound in this game, but it isn't as good as you would expect.

Controls - 9/10

The controls are simple, and easy to learn. The "A" button is the jump button, and the "B" button being the tongue attack. Use the control pad to move around, and tilt the Game-boy to change the points of gravity. The tilt sensor simply adds new strategies to each level, adding to the difficulty. I think the controls are good, and learning them shouldn't take too long.

Overall - 9/10

Overall, I found the game unusually good. As long as you like bright, happy places, difficult bosses, and Yoshi, you'll like this game. With good replay value, challenging levels, and fun packed in this cartridge, I think you should buy the game, and give it a try.
