James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing
Review by andymancan1
"Totally inferior to its console counterpart"
PROS: Good story; decent GBA visuals
CONS: Bad aiming; not much fun; too short; small-time compared to GameCube counterpart
[PLAY JAMES BOND THEME THROUGH GBA TINNY]
Does it sound that good? Not really. Everything or Nothing was originally released on the GBA, a few months before its console counterparts. Of course, action games on the GBA usually haven't fared well, especially when they've been ported from a console series. Although there have been previous Bond games on the GBA, it's clear that this game continues the trend.
The graphics here are very good for a GBA game. The characters are blurry, but that's what you'd expect. There are in-game portraits of the actors from the console versions that appear when their character is speaking, or, as I should put it, typing lines into the teleprompter. That's right, no voice acting. Well, you wouldn't expect in on the GBA. The sound effects are decent, but repetitive. The music helps create a Bond feel, but nothing else really does. Since you can't really make out that you're supposed to be Pierce Brosnan, it's hard to tell that this is supposed to be a 007 game. Plus, Bond doesn't struggle with aiming. Since the GBA screen is small, it's sometimes hard to see exactly where your gun is pointing. But don't count on dying that much do to the vegetable status of your foes. The GBA can't really handle a good AI system. It shows here.
The story here is what you'd expect. Some megalomaniac is trying to take over the world using the latest technology and you have to kill him before he does. It isn't told that well, but it will appeal to 007 fans. That's about it.
There are driving sequences in this game, but they're about as well-done as one of those ugly toasters from the 1980s. In other words, they're not that much fun. Basically, all you do in this game is sneak and shoot. That's all. And since this game is shorter than my hair, it's pretty much not worth paying full price for. The missions- all 8 of them- are pretty repetitive, and the driving sequences don't differ from each other. One of them is only a minute long EA just continues to impress me. NOT. The game is easy, short, and boring. Not at all what I'd expected.
Another thing that they decided to put on here was a blackjack sim. It's fun for the first deal. That's it. Plus, you have to earn it if you want to play it. It isn't worth your time.
Overall, this game is totally inferior to its console counterpart. It's not what it could've been and isn't worth paying full price for. A 3 out of 10.
