Doom II
Review by JonWood007
"The Ultimate GBA Shooter"
I am a long time Doom fan. When Doom came on GBA, I was impressed and amazed. When Doom 2 came, I was even more impressed and amazed.
Graphics- 10/10
Graphically, this is about the best you're going to get out of the GBA. The graphics are nearly the same as the other versions of this game, except the bodies disappear when they die and blood is green. Still, it is very close.
Audio- 9/10
The audio for this game is amazing for the GBA. The sounds are exactly the same as other versions of this game. The music is mediocre, but good for the GBA.
Controls- 9/10
The controls aren't very good in themselves (for example, you need to hold down both shoulder buttons and press the d-pad up or down to change weapons), but for the GBA, they are fantastic. There aren't really many buttons on the GBA, but Doom 2 makes use of all of them in a decent fashion.
Game play- 20/20
The game play for the GBA is awesome. Doom 2 is a first person shooter. In this game, you fight demons from hell. You basically kill everything before it can kill you. You explore many levels and try to open doors by acquiring keys. Doom 2 is much improved from the first Doom. You now have a new weapon, new monsters, and more levels.
Fun factor- 20/20
This game is very fun. After beating this game, you will want to play this game again and again and again.
Replay value/ Game Length- 20/20
For the GBA, this is a rather long game. It is 32 levels, and each level takes approximately 5-10 minutes (give or take, many of them are rather long). As I mentioned above, this is a game you will want to play again, so it does have replay value in that sense. I would say that overall, this game takes as much time as a modern first person shooter (between 6-10 hours).
Difficulty- 10/10
Compared to the first Doom, this game is hard. "Bring it on" is like the first Doom's "hurt me plenty". However, if you want this game to be easy, you always have the "I'm too young to die" difficulty which is great for beginners and people who don't want a challenge.
Overall- 9.8/10
Overall, Doom 2 is an awesome shooter for the GBA and it should set the benchmark for GBA first person shooters. I would recommend it to any FPS fan who has GBA.
