Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder
Review by Lekonua
"I find this games lack of fun disturbing..."
Man...where do I BEGIN? I love RPG's but this is definitely the worst I've ever played. For one thing, the moving around the dungeons part is just...annoying. Forward, forward, forward, forward, left, forward, right, forward forward forward, right, forward, right, forward, etc, etc...
But that is nothing compared to the suckiness of the battles, which are supposed to be the fun part, obviously, as the game has no storyline whatsoever. All the characters are represented by cruddy pixelated sprites that are even lower than the kind of stuff I made before I joined BZP. You can't even tell which character is which until it is their turn.
Okay, so it's a character's turn, right? Select attack and pick an enemy that's within their range. Pathetic sword swing, even though the character is equipped with a mace. Miss. Oh well, that happens. Next character. Swing a sword, even though the character has a bow and arrow. Shoot. Miss. Oh well, bad luck. Next character. Swing a sword, even though the character...has a sword...never mind. Miss. I swear, only 1 out of 10 attacks actually hits the enemy. And when they do, 2 damage! Out of the 15 the enemy in question has. Oh well. At least it wasn't a miss.
Enemy's turn. Swing sword, hit, 5 damage. Next enemy. Swing sword, hit, 4 damage. The enemy's accuracy is the exact opposite if yours! If you miss 9 out of 10 attacks, they will HIT you with 9 out of 10 of theirs and you're dead after 3 turns. 4 if you've managed to level up some how.
Did I mention its serious lack of any storyline? Some bad guy shows up and your team of fighters must go into the sewers to fight evil. You play for what seems like forever and nothing ever happens to show that you're even remotely close to advancing the "story" at all! The wall color changes. Did I go to a new level? Did I go back a level? Do I need to go back a level, or am I on the right track? I could be 5 minutes from beating the game, for all I know!
I've had the game for 3 years and I'm stuck at the same spot. No more enemies to fight, not that I'd engage them if there were. To conclude, this is a game that RPG fans should avoid.
Stick with Final Fantasy. At least you know when you've beaten one of those games.
