Classic NES Series: Donkey Kong
Review by Trex
"A classic..... albeit a short one."
Introduction- This is a review for Donkey Kong a port of the classic arcade game for the Game Boy Advance. This is exactly like the NES version thus being called part of the Classic NES series.
Graphics- The game is a classic NES port. It looks just like the original NES version. The game looks and runs smoothly. The graphics get an eight out of ten.
Controls- The controls are very simple. Absolutely no complaints here. The controls get a ten out of ten for being so easy to figure out.
Sound/Music- The sound and music is actually very catchy even today. The music of the level sounds nice. The sounds are also entertaining each time you jump over a barrel. Also the most memorable part is the music that occurs when you grab the hammer (discussed in gameplay section). Although not a breathtaking musical score like Final Fantasy, this game has memorable music and sound even after twenty-five years. The sound and music get an eight out of ten.
Gameplay- The story of the game is that you are Mario. You have to rescue Pauline from the evil gorilla named Donkey Kong. You this by climbing up ladders and jumping over barrels. Although this sounds boring, the game is surprisingly entertaining. The formula still works today. Also you can obtain the hammer to smash barrels. The game is still entertaining even after twenty-five years. That is the shine of the game. The gameplay gets a nine out of ten.
Life Span- The game will only last you two hours at the most before you beat it. The game only has three levels. This is the weakest point of the game. The Life Span gets a two out of ten.
Overall- If you have this game for another system, this game is not worth buying as it is an exact port. Also if you have a gamecube and don't have Animal Crossing, buy Animal Crossing as it is a complete game , and you can find the complete version of Donkey Kong on it. However if you haven't played this game and don't have a gamecube, buy this game. However it won't last you long.... Overall I give this game a seven out of ten due to its good gameplay and music. However the short gameplay strongly detracts from the experience.
