Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure
Review by wolverinefan
"Not as good as the original trilogy"
Story
Cortex has made a giant shrinking ray in space and he uses it to shrink Earth. Crash has to find all the crystals on Earth to give to his sister so she can bring Earth back to it's original size. The story seems like any other Crash story line. Nothing great but it works. I give story a 6/10
Control
The control is simple to get the hang of and at first it's responsive but as you get new moves, you run into some problems. when you get the double jump power-up, the control becomes very unresponsive and makes the game rather harder since the later levels require the double jump. I give control a 7/10
Voice Acting, Sound Effects and Music
There isn't any voice acting. The sound effects seem to be taken directly from the Playstation games. My only complaint is that Crash's underwater spin sounds horrible. The music is so-so. Nothing very good and it barely fits the games. I give voice acting, sound effects and music a 6/10
Game play
The Playstation Crash games were great until they got the whole Mario syndrome (kart and party games). This game pretty much seems like a port of the second Crash game. Power ups, relics, underwater levels and the polar bear are all here. Crash can jump, spin, slide, double jump, dash and he also has a few more moves. All will be needed and they look semi-fluid on the GBA screen. There are 20 levels plus 4 boss levels. The bosses are jokes, so simple that they never hit me once. The levels always have 1 of 6 or 7 themes. The themes are lame and boring and it hurts the game play because it feels like you're playing the same level over and over. I think there are a total of three '3D" bear chases and they all play the same and look pretty much the same. I wish they would have added Coco has a playable character ala the third game for Playstation. A better variety of stages and perhaps upping the challenge would make this a worthwhile Crash title but as it is, it isn't that good. I give game play a 5/10
Replay Value
The game took me about 2 hours to get 50% and I'm not a huge fan of getting the relics so I doubt I'll try to just for the other ending and bonus level. The extra challanges do add a little bit to the overall replay value but I don't see myself picking this game back up and playing it anytime soon. I give replay value a 4/10
Final Score
I give Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure a 4/10
