SpongeBob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman
Review by joeyissoweird
"Worth the $"
I remember the day I got this game. It was probably my last Christmas in New Orleans.. or earlier.. Probably my last.. anyways.. and I was excited to get the oh-so new Game Boy SP. I bought Sponge bob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman with it. Once midnight came, I told everyone online "Brb" that I was talking to so I can open my exciting new stuff. This game was very fun, but now that I'm playing it again and I've seen better, this is OK.
The graphics are okay for the Game Boy Advanced, or what I should say, Game Boy Advanced SP. Spongebob looks alright, but he just doesn't look good. Odd that the Game Boy Advance released in an era of 3d gaming. Anyways, graphics are pretty great.
What you have to do is just basically, stick jellyfishes in bubbles so you can move, break walls with strong bubbles, it's just a nice little side-scrolling games. There are different bubbles to help you with each level and/or part of a level. You get a bounce bubble to jump high, a float to get higher, slowly and dull, and you get a strong bubble to break walls. There is more than that.
The sound is pretty nice. I just hate the repetitiveness of it. It's a lot of the same sound all the time, except "cut scenes" where the flying Dutchman appears.
I just noticed, the Flying Dutchman means hes Dutch! Sorry, sorry, let's go on with the review.
The plot is basically.. the flying Dutchman is scaring everyone and there's a treasure involved. That's all I know. Plot is not much needed for the game. You might as well just say this is a side-scrolling game with text. But the real plot is, there is a genie, which is the treasure that belongs to the Flying Dutchman. You go through many levels to get different treasures, and you find three keys. There are little plots in it, too. Example, you find Gary. Simple do the side-scrolling stuff, then you find him and the flying Dutchman. That's when you start the game. Simple, huh? I find the plot to be pretty decent. This may be the reason the game is so short. Expect finding a video on the internet probably of "I Beat Spongebob Squarepant: Flying Dutchman in 11 minutes".
Overall, this game is pretty great. Rent or Buy? Well, there's no way I know of to rent Game Boy Advance games, unless Blockbuster still has them.. so Buy. It's a great game and it's a lot of fun.
