Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2
Review by Katla
"A good RPG...with robots!"
Introduction:
Super Robot Taisen: Original Taisen 2 is a tactical Role Playing Game(with robots!!!) for the Game Boy Advance.
As with all sequels, this game boosts all the things the previous one has to offer. Music, Graphics, Playability, Replayability; all of these are improved upon.
Gameplay:
This game is really easy to learn how to play. You move the units around on a map and have them battle other robots. The level is usually cleared after you defeat all the enemy robots, but there are certain conditions that must be faced in later levels.
Before each level you are allowed to update your robots, move around pilots(and train them as well) and sell parts that you aren't going to use. Also this is the time you would save your game.
Each robot is unique as are the pilots. There are many combinations that are really interesting to check out.
Gameplay gets a 10/10
Story:
The storyline picks up shortly after the events in the first Original Generation. The characters defends their home once again against aliens and other humans. There are many themes that this game picks up on that were also in the first Original Generation game.
The Story gets a 7/10
Graphics:
SRT:OG2 has really good graphics for a last generation hand held. The robots are incredibly detailed, something that the first one had issues with. The attacks are also much more impressive.
Graphics gets a 9/10
Music:
This game builds up on the music, but there is not much of a change since the first game. The music is not too clear but that is more of an issue with the Game Boy Advance. Most of your characters get their own theme music. Some of the more important enemies have themes as well.
Music gets a 9/10
Play Time/Replayability:
Play Time wise there are forty or so levels in this game. Some are easier than others, but a playthrough should take at least 20 hours.
If it is one thing this game is perfect at, it is replayability. There are several different paths in this game that take a half dozen playthroughs to see. There are also several dozen mechs and pilots out there that cannot all be used in one game. This game has two more harder versions that improve the bad guy units as well as limiting how much you can improve your units.
Try a Gespenst only hard mode!
Play Time/Replayability is a perfect 10/10.
Final Recommendation:
This game is a must for every Role Plating Game fan. It is well worth the effort required to find this game.
