Bomberman Tournament
Review by Squallxxx
"4-player classic Bomberman, and a Zelda-Style quest mode. What could go wrong?"
Bomberman Tournament is a solid entry for the GBA. The classic bomberman game is a blast -- featuring addictive new levels, and a 4-player mode when you link up with other GBA's that'll have you playing for hours. Plus, this time around there is a solid 1-Player mode that has you collecting Karabon's and coaching them against other Karabon trainers. Basically, it copies both Pokemon and Zelda, and tries to mixture the fun in both games. Well, Bomberman Tournament isn't quite as fun as the new Zelda game boy games, or Pokemon, but still proves too be a long adventure. Bomberman is known for it's addictive multiplayer modes and shines in this game. Bomberman fans will not be disapointed -- this game has all most everything a fan of the series would wish for. Bomberman is back and better then ever!
Graphics - 6/10 - It isn't quite Rayman Advance, but it's colorful graphics are nothing to complain about. Looks like the SNES bomberman titles. The life meter at the top of the screen is hard to see at times.
Sound - 4/10 - You won't really notice the sound effects or music -- they're just there. Nothing painful to the ears -- there really not notice able.
Control - 10/10 - Using Bomberman's attacks are done easily, real basic and not hard at all. The A button lets out a bomb and the B button uses a Karabon's special move.
Replay - 6/10 - The battle mode will keep you coming back for more -- but the quest mode does get boring at times and you'll probably not want to go through the game twice. The game could be finished in 2 weeks.
Battles - 7/10 - The game doesn't focus on the creatures as much as Pokemon. Instead, most of the game will focus on using bombs and completing puzzles. The battles are done weirdly -- you choice three attacks and then your Karabon and your oppenents karabon battle in a boxing ring. Hudson Soft tries to add something new to the mix -- but it doesn't work perfectly.
Overall - 7/10 - It's a solid entry for the GBA -- but not as fun as Pokemon gold/silver/crystal or Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons. Buy a zelda or pokemon title instead -- those play on the Gameboy Advance too. Bottom Line: It's an established multiplayer classic which adds a single player mode and mixes two of Nintendo's most beloved franchises.
