Final Fight One
Review by Doodleheimer
"More people to beat up? Can't I just shoot them with my rifle?"
Final Fight One is the GBA reincarnation of Capcom's classic beat'em-up Final Fight, which is over a decade old. Final Fight also saw two crappy ports to the SNES and a really good port to the Sega CD.
Genre - Beat 'em-up (Fighting)
Release Date-2001
Publisher-Capcom
Game Play-
9.1/10
There's not really much to this game. The main purpose of this game is to go through the game's six levels and beat the crap out of everyone. You have an initial selection of three characters, with two being unlockable.
There are plenty of extra items in this game that you can pick up and use along the way. Those items include metal pipes, swords, knives: health-restoring foods such as pizza, chicken, and gum: and misc. items with no use such as hats, radios, and nothing.
I wish there were a larger variety of enemies in this game. Although they vary in looks, a lot of them tend to fight the same. Some of them have their own patterns too, though. But, seeing as how this game was made over a decade ago, and this is supposed to be a remake of the original, I can let it slip under the rug just this once. (Although it better not steal my key.
Control-
8.9/10
The two problems I had with the control is that they put the special attack button on the L button and that you can't move while rapid-punching. Other than that, the control is fine.
Graphics-
8.9/10
The graphics are pretty good and remain true to the original. The characters could've used just a little more variety in the costumes, though. And the two hidden characters' (I won't say who they are) images were ripped right out of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Other than that, the graphics are as good as gold.
Audio-
7.4/10
I had serious doubts about the music in this game, because I really liked the original's soundtrack. Luckily, it's not too bad. The audio's definitely not as good as the original's, but it gets the bulk of it right. The sound effects remain mostly intact. It pretty much hits the nail and does good with the limitations of the GBA's audio capabilities.
Enjoyability-
9.3/10
A better-than-arcade-perfect translation in all departments except for sound. While there may be some differences, the extras make up for more than what was taken away. This game is extremely addicting, and a must-have for any GBA owner.
