Doom
Review by Zylo
"The Best of Handheld Shooting"
The first thing I have to say is that this game is an awesome port of Doom for Snes. Doom has always been great for any system (PC and Snes) but this one beat them all! The reason is it is portable and still is great at the same time.
Graphics: (9/10)
Though some might say the graphics are bad compared to other Gameboy Advance but this is a First Person Shooter (FPS). The graphics for this, looking at it as a FPS, are excellent but the reason I gave it a (9/10) is that when looking from far monsters can appear to be unclear or not seen altogether.
Sound: (7/10)
The music in this game will get repetitive after awhile but by the time it does become repetitive you would be focused on killing the monsters or even making the par for each level. But aside from the music, the monster grunts and cries are very clear.
Gameplay: (10/10)
The gameplay in this game is very superior because of many things such as the smooth frame rate for a Gameboy Advance game. You start off with New Game and you have 5 difficulties to choose from just like all the past Doom Games. From there you have to choose 1 of the 3 episodes also from the past Doom Games. The most important aspect of Doom is that it is portable! One more additional option that is REAL helpful is the choice to adjust the contrast.
Multiplayer: (9/10)
This is one of the major reasons I bought this game. The multiplayer option is great! The only difference from the actual Single Player game is the frame rate is a little choppier but still for battling against 3 other different people the frame rate is more than decent.
Replayability: (9/10)
Some levels in this game are long and will keep you busy but sometimes you wouldn’t want to miss the secret parts of each level. Making you want to go back and complete every single part of this game and multiplayer probably never get boring as long as you have friends who make a challenge for yourself.
Controls: (10/10)
The controls in Doom are pretty simple to get used to and you can change them though they are pretty basic.
L + R Then up or down - switch weapons
A - shoot
Holding B down + direction - run
Though the PC version of Doom had 27 levels the GBA version only has 24 levels. Also a few monsters are also absent such as the Specter Demon, Cyber Demon, and the Spider Mastermind. The blood was changed from Green to Red for some odd reason (so it wasn't, rated Mature) and corpses now disappear as to lying there lifeless.
Rent/Buy:
If you have some friends who also have this game and want to link together that probably never gets old and playing the episodes again to find the secrets and make par will take up some time so definitely I would Buy this one.
Final Verdict: (8/10)
Though this game does not have many flaws at all it lacks a certain something but still is a great game to have and play with others. It is will keep you busy for some time.
