Wario Land 4
Review by LeoGeo
"Better then Mario, worse then Castlevania"
OK, I was really looking forward to this game, so I bought it the second it was in the stores. I just played it, and in about a week, I had beaten the game and unlocked all secrets. So it isnt really hard. BUT...... that doesnt mean you wont have a good time playing this game. The graphics are really fabulous. They are AAAWWWWEEESSSSOOOOMMMMMEEEE. Really. This is the best looking Gameboy Advance game I own, and even the best I have ever seen. Wario is looking funny, you can see him very detailed. The backgrounds are interactive and beautiful. (especially in the jungle world...... the level where it rains is amazing!)
The sound is cool too. Not so very special, but its OK. At least better then Mario. Actually, I havent heard much games ith good sound for the GBA. I would compare it to Bomberman Tournament; In BT the sound is better, because you hear more. More details and stuff, you hear it when a bomb explodes.... in Wario, you only hear the background music and every once in a while, you here Wario making a noise.
Gameplay is good, Wario is easy to control. In a few secs, you ill be able to move Wario exactly the way you want him to move. Only thing tricky here are the combos.... in the beginning you might not be able to make a combo so soon.
But now the replay. That is really horrible. The minute you start playing this game, you will get hooked. In about a week (and even a week is long, you can, if you really are a die-hard, beat it in about three days. That is really too short for a game that costs you 50 bucks)), you have beaten it, gotten all the cool secrets (there are a lot, that is good too) and then you throw it away and forget about it. Sure, you can play again in the Hard Mode, but we both know that isnt really fun.
So, Im gonna give this game the following marks:
Gameplay: 8
Graphics: 10
Sound: 8
Replay: 3
Overall: 8
Conclusion: You could see this game as the follower of Mario Advance. I own both games, and I can tell you you ill like Wario A LOT more. Mario is longer, and it takes you more time to beat it, but Wario is cooler, funnier and much better looking. But if you really want a good platformer, I recommend Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. The game might not look as good as Wario, but it will hook you longer.
