Konami Krazy Racers
Review by Simon
"This is the end of Mario Kart supremacy"
Konami's latest racing game is the finest effort in how to keep the classic features of a
racing game and still keep it interesting and modern. It is not a secret that Konami Krazy
Racers was fully based in Mario Kart series. The positive point here is that Konami analyzed
the weak points of Nintendo's series (such as some very bad designed tracks, low rate of
secrets and low number of playable characters) and corrected it. Konami Krazy Racers is the
masterpiece of Mario Kart styled games, and, technically or not, it is much better than
Mario Kart Super Circuit, made by Nintendo.
Graphics: 10/10
Well, I could not find any low point at all in the graphics. Everything, from the sprites to
the tracks are very well done. Konami also added some interesting features, such as transparency
effects and screen full-rotation. Nothing in the graphics will disappoint you. Overall, the
graphics are much better than Mario Kart Super Circuit or any other racing game released for
Game Boy Advance.
Sound: 10/10
The intro tune is one of the best sounds I ever heard in a racing games. The in-game tunes
are also very good. The musics are also related with the backgrounds. In the Poppin Beach,
in example, the tune is a remix of ''El Pais del Sol'', from Pop'n Music. In Cyber Field track,
the tune is a remix of ''Metal Gear Solid - Main Theme'', present in Beatmania. We could surely
expect these kind of quality from the creators of Beatmania, pop'n Music and Dance Dance
Revolution. The characters also have excellent voices.
Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay is nothing less that excellent. All the karters have their own specs. By the way,
I am sure you know them. There are Dracula, from Castlevania; Ninja, from Metal Gear; Goemon,
from Mystical Ninja, and much more. Nintendo's Mario Kart series never had many different
characters (i.e., Kirby, Pikachu or Samus). Konami's game has. And it is a VERY strong point.
Fun Factor: 10/10
Jumps, high speed and lots of cheating. What else would you ask more? NOTHING!
Value: 10/10
This is the kind of game that makes you proud for buying your Game Boy Advance. This game has
the right difficult level, the right tracks design, and, most important, the right characters.
Buy or Rent?
BBBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUUUUYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
Overall: 10/10
Konami did a perfect job here. This game is easy when it should be, and harder when it should,
too. While Mario Kart Super Circuit is not a bad game per se, Konami Krazy Racers is the
finest effort in this area. The multiplayer levels will keep you entertained for days,
or even months, as Chicken is hard to master. The one player mode will keep you entertained
for months, as you also need licenses. And the secret characters will take a while to get, as
they usually are in very hard accessible places. One more perfect game from Konami!
