Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Review by Gogo726
"Black Cartridge is about to die!"
For a long time, I've seen this game and thought how cool it would be to have it on my Game Boy Advance. I kept holding off buying it, but still wanting it. After I bought this game, I became a firm believer in the try before you buy policy. I believe the only reason I bought this was because of the name. This game was similar to the beloved Gauntlet LEGENDS game. I emphasize Legends because that was beloved, but can the same be said of DL?
Game play. Just by playing ten minutes, you'll notice your consuls controls slowly, and I wasn't even playing the warrior the first time. Often, I found it hard to aim my shots, resulting in unnecessary damage to me. I did like however that a lot of the classic weapon upgrades such as enemy repulsiveness, reflective shots, extra speed, etc. were include in this game.
Graphics. Since this is on Game Boy Advance, I had high expectations. All you need to do is cut out the sides of the screen, and you'd get a game that could have been done on the Game Boy Color. Maybe the reason they kept it on the Game Boy Advance was that so Game Boy Color owners wouldn't be bought by a name as well. Even though you're given four choices of colors, there isn't much difference when you get to the action.
Sound. There were some voice acting on this cart, which is always fun. Well, almost always. You see, when choosing my V and color, the class and color is announced. My complaint here is that once again I know the Game Boy Advance is capable of much more. I understand that the small speaker can't allow for great sound that the big consuls have, but when the sounds are of lower quality than that of the Gauntlet games on the NES, then this should tell you something. The music itself was the usual bleeps and bloops that the original Game Boy was famous for. It's just nothing memorable, unlike the first Gauntlet theme which in my opinion was catchy.
Overall, this game seemed to follow closely to the elements of that of Gauntlet Legends. If you already have a version of this for either the N64 or the Play Station, then I wouldn't recommend it. to sum it up in four words ''Gogo726 needs refund badly''
